THE VIVIAN GIRLS EXPERIENCE play lo-fi craft-pop. Craft-pop is a brand new genre of music that is focued on creating hand-sewn Vivian Girl dresses and doing embroidery, with the lo-fi pop songs serving as the soundtrack and anthem.
THE VIVIAN GIRLS EXPERIENCE are comprised of ENID CROW, disaster scientist photographer and JUSTIN DUERR, spirit-mind-electricity researcher.
THE VIVIAN GIRLS BAND is thematically related to the stories and paintings of HENRY DARGER, who created the VIVIAN GIRLS characters in a secluded Chicago apartment many years ago. HENRY DARGER exemplified craft-pop sensibilities, although he never, to anyones knowledge, created any lo-fi pop songs. When THE VIVIAN GIRLS BAND play songs or dress up in their hand-made purple-Vivian-dresses, they actively channel the spirits of two of HENRY DARGER'S Vivian Girls. The other five Vivian Girls help out behind the scenes, making crafts, fighting bloody battles with the Glandelinian soldiers and sometimes contributing lyrics. Some have remarked "how can one member of the Vivian Girls band be a biological male"? Well, if you are asking this question then you have not examined Henry Darger's Vivian Girls very closely. ENID CROW and JUSTIN DUERR are both tried and true dyed-in-the-wool Vivian Girls, in body, spirit and mind!
This summer the VIVIAN GIRLS BAND will release a very special limited edition PACKAGED-IN-A-HAND-SEWN-DRESS recording! The CD will actually be packaged in the pocket of your very own purple Vivian dress! This will be VERY LIMITED EDITION, for obvious reasons. There will then be a general-release version featuring photography by ENID CROW.
The VIVIAN GIRLS EXPERIENCE live performances will more closely resemble a play than a standard musical performance. But our performances will also be very special, infrequent and worth travelling long distances to.
