The Morpholinos joined forces in the gray dawn of the new millennium to lovingly recreate the pop standards of their youth for their own twisted purposes. In 2003 a fluke deal with an Oregon lab set the wheels in motion for their debut on NCM East Records, For Background Use Only (NCM 40119). Co-Produced with Jano Rix (Rix Glassmeyer, Gabe Dixon Band), the disc not only features the core trio of Matt Glassmeyer (Rix Glassmeyer, Twelve 20 Six) on his invention, the shuitar (a bastardized guitar-turned-drum-set), Lori Bingel (Andrew Thompson, Twelve 20 Six) on electric bass, and Brian "Bizingas" Drye (The Four Bags, Bizingas Trio) on electric and acoustic piano, but an impressive roster of special guests, including:
Josh Sclar (sax), Greg Joseph (hihat), Jano Rix (synthesizer, vox, and production), Mike McGinnis (clarinet and sax), Shane Endsley (trumpet), Tim Ziesmer (guitar), Jacob Garchik (trombone), Steve Welsh (bari sax), Mechelle Chesnutt (viola), Sean Moran (guitar), Peter Hess (sax), J. Walter Hawkes (trombone), Tim Albright (trombone), Alan Ferber (bass trombone), Dave Smith (trumpet), Jeff Hermanson (trumpet), Matt Hankle (drums), and Tom Aldrich (accordion).Momentarily on haitus, the Morpholinos are remembered fondly for their wickedly humorous and musical live performances, as well as their highly-accessible debut recording.Share the love!
