Even though Sound the Siren is no longer a band, we wanted to take the time to update all of you on what everyone, who was in the band, has been up to. We also felt it fitting to put together a sort of timeline for those who care to know more about or those who might be new listeners and seek out more information about Sound the Siren, the band. So, if you're interested at all, here we go...
We came together in August of 2005, in the original form of Adam, Blake, Dan, Mikie, and Sidney. With the simple goal of writing music that we could be proud of and sharing it with as many people as we possibly could, we pretty much hit the ground running. Right out of the gate we pushed ourselves to our limits while writing and preparing for a tour that we had booked before we'd ever played a hometown show, let alone had a complete set of songs written to perform live. In addition to all of that, the first show we had booked to play together was out of state. We promptly took the time to record a four song acoustic demo to take out on the road for anyone who was interested and wanted something to hold them over until our eventual full band demo was to be recorded. After a month of writing and preparation, we'd finally see the light of day as we took to the road, in October, and attempted to make it through our first stint of shows together.
When we returned from our first stint on the road, we were sad to see Adam decide to leave the band to pursue other interests of his own. Upon his departure, we decided that we would be better off looking for a new guitar player instead of a new bassist. With that in mind, we decided to move Blake from singing and playing guitar to singing and playing bass. After searching around for awhile, we found the guy we were looking for in Brian. After Brian joined the band, we immediately began refining our sound with the writing of new songs and the re-working of old ones. It was just a short while before we were going to get back out on the road. So, we were excited about the opportunity to showcase our new lineup so quickly. Before we'd do that, we would take the time to go into Strawberry Fields Recording Studio to track a four song full band demo with Jim Meeker. We would spend the whole month of December sporadically going in and out of the studio, taking the time to create something we could be proud of. In the immediate wake of 2005, we finally had the finished product that we would take out on the road with us, in January, for our second stint on the road.
When we returned from our second stint on the road, Blake's departure from the band ensued. Although not identical to Adam's previous departure, Blake's departure from the band was similarly due to just a difference in priorities and the need to fulfill and meet those needs. In his absence, we struggled to regroup and find a new singer. We made the decision to move Dan from keys to bass, while completely omitting the keys from our lineup altogether. We also had Brian sing temporarily for a few shows that we had previously booked for the end of January and February. However, we just never could quite get over the obstacle that was the loss of Blake. After a long search for the right singer to fill his shoes, we would finally decide to hang it up and call it quits.
In August of 2006, Adam, Blake, and Brian attempted to reform Sound the Siren while Dan, Mikie, and Sidney attempted to form a new band under the name of Apollonia. Eventually both would be bands disbanded while everyone went their own, separate ways.
Although we weren’t together for a very long period of time, we’re all so proud of the goals we did accomplish and the experiences we were fortunate enough to have and share with all of you. We wouldn’t trade it for the world. So, if you were an old or a new fan (it doesn’t even matter), we hope you enjoyed our time together as much as we did and we hope you’ll keep in touch and up to speed with everything we’re doing on our own now. Thank you, all, so much again. You’ll never truly know how much you meant to us and what we were trying to do together. It was fun while it lasted and we hope you’ll continue to enjoy the music we’ve left for you and still have in store for you, via current and future projects. And for one last time, we thank you.
