"A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having."
The makers of the film V for Vendetta may not have had a band in mind
when they wrote this line of the movie, but The Express Local from
Toledo, Ohio used it as words to live by even before the debut of the
movie.
Since fall of 2005, The Express Local has kept their fans' feet moving
and their minds thinking with their synth-driven style of pop, rock
and punk that spreads a positive message reminiscent of the spirit of punk with modern themes and personal experience woven in.
The band, also know as TXL, formed from remnants of other Toledo rock
and punk bands coming together to form a sound that relied heavily on
the sounds of pop-keys and catchy guitar riffs.
Despite line-up changes, the three remaining original members of the
band (Dave, Doug and Alex) have managed to surround themselves with
some of the best musicians in the Toledo area while continuing their
goal of entertaining audiences and sparking meaningful change and
discourse in their fans.
After playing dozens of shows in their hometown and some successful touring, the band took a trip to West Virginia to record with Greg McGowan of the band Time and Distance. After putting together four tracks in two weeks with Greg, the band had what they felt would make a strong debut EP.
The Express Local has gained a large fan base in their hometown as
well as in cities around the country bringing a high-energy show to
their audience. They have shared the stage with such national acts as
Spitalfield, Punchline, I am the Pilot, Faster than Fashion, Emanuel,
I Am the Avalanche, Paulson, A Change of Pace, Self Against City and
Valencia.
TXL has plans for constant touring throughout the years to come to
continue spreading their music and their message and some of the songs
off their upcoming EP can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/theexpresslocal or http://www.purevolume.com/theexpresslocal.
