About Me

"....This is indie noir with inventive rhythmical lustre and a haunting vocal style, understated but overwhelmingly cool. " - Mick Mercer (Music journalist)
We were previously called 'The Butterfly Effect'. We recently decided to change our name due to other bands using that title. We want to be original and have an original name for our group. After much consideration the name we came up with is 'The Psychic Echo'.
From Butterflies To Echoes :
We wanted something similar to 'The Butterfly Effect' - a term used to describe Chaos Theory, or how small actions can have much larger consequences, much like a butterfly fluttering its wings causing a hurricane on the other side of the world. We agree with this theory. we believe that every action does indeed have a consequence, and even the smallest act can have a huge impact on our lives, others and the world around us.
The butterfly effect is a creative metaphor for cause and effect. However, this metaphor deals purely with physical action. We wanted to express ourselves through a name which took this idea to a deeper, more personal and less tangible level.
We took the initial idea of the butterfly effect and allowed it to evolve from the physical, fluttering of wings, into the metaphysical, creative thoughts and ideas. Our new name 'The Psychic Echo' developed the ideas behind the butterfly effect and moved them into the realms of the metaphysical.
'The Psychic Echo' suggests how we can allow ourselves to look into the future to pre-empt and try to manipulate our future existence, much like the psychic may be able to predict the future. Our futures are determined by the choices we make. If we carefully consider the effects of our actions or inaction, our thoughts and ideas and the consequences, and are truly conscious of our actions, maybe it will help us to make the right decisions in life.
We believe that perception is everything. That positivity creates more positivity, as does negativity. Our name relates to the power of positive, creative and hopeful thoughts and ideas. These thoughts and ideas can have a ripple effect or echo in our lives and our futures. 'The Psychic Echo' says all of this to us.
The Butterfly Logo :
We use the butterfly as a symbol, a visual image to represent our group, and our philosophy. The butterfly has links to our previous name and our present title as far as Chaos Theory is concerned, however, it also means much more to us than Chaos Theory alone.
In Greek mythology butterflies represent the human psyche, the mind and the soul. So, this is closely connected with my lyrics, as much of what I write is about mental and spiritual pain, love and grief.
The butterfly also demonstrates to us how beautiful life can be. Its short life-span reminds us of our short time on this earth, and how precious every day is. Their delicate wings reveal the fragility of life, reminding us of how fragile we are too.
Butterflies are like rainbows, only briefly touching our lives and then they are gone, but they instantly remind us of how wonderful, beautiful and precious life is.
They are tiny and gentle. Precious and beautiful. Delicate and fragile. Fleeting colours, like flying jewels in the air. Touched by the sun. Like glimmers of hope in the darkness.
EVA VALENTINE
"During my life I have had many creative interests. These have included acting, contemporary dance, art & design etc. The one constant amongst all these interests has been and still is writing. I have been quietly keeping journals, writing poetry etc for most of my adult life. Writing has helped me throughout my life to cope with life's trials, tribulations, heartaches and torments by releasing and expressing my innermost thoughts and emotions.
During the past 18 months I have had the desire and opportunity to use some of my writing and poems in the creation of songs. I continue to write, be creative and my poems have evolved and now always take the form of songs.
It feels good to share my thoughts and feelings with others through music and at last make myself heard".

DARK STAR
Since an early age Dark Star has been playing, producing and creating music. Taking on influences from classical to industrial. He enjoys the sense of musical alchemy that comes from experimentation. Having worked in the band setting for many years - The Psychic Echo acts as a change of direction in which the music comes from a more personal empathy that connects directly to Eva's lyrics. Dark Star sees music as a way to communicate feelings and strengthen sentiments. Thoughts are organised into melodies and emotion is expressed through sound.

Influences: We are influenced by all that surrounds us. All we have seen and touched, and all that has touched us. All we have learnt and all we will learn. All that we know and all we have heard. All we have felt and still feel.

LYRIC'S - Inspired by Life and death. Love and hate. Love and desire. Love and loss. Loss and grief. Beauty and uglyness. Compassion and cruelty. Hope and despair. Joy and pain. Happiness and sadness. Positive and negative. The darkness and the light.

MUSIC - Although we do not want to sound like, or emulate other bands or artists, we are still somehow influenced by other singers and musicians. I suppose we cannot help but produce something similar to what we listen to, and are into. Although we'd rather not be put into a 'Genre Box', as we are into many styles/genres of music. Varying from Classical to Punk, Gothic to Metal, Electronica to Indie, Industrial to Ambient and Alternative to the Avant Garde. We aim to try to mix it up and experiment. Then hopefully come up with something a little different.
