In 1995, I purchased my first camera. It was purchased so I could be able to say that I had a camera. It wasn't until I began producing fashion shows a few years later, that the camera got its actual use. I needed photos to satisfy my diverse portfolio of clients which included, Meoshe Clothing Company, Maurice Malone USA, AND1, and Ocean Pacific to name a few. As a fashion show producer and event promoter I needed to give my clients photos for website and media uses. After several unsuccessful attempts of trying to hire a photographer, I put my camera to use. It took about five more years before I decided to leave my day job and build up the confidence to become a full time photographer.
I no longer throw events as such. I put my event experience into throwing photography exhibitions. Today, my work is seen in many magazines, advertisements, posters, calendars, books, galleries, websites and many other online print mediums. My inspiration derives from the nature and beauty of Black culture. “There is nothing more beautiful to me than a Black woman so it’s easy to capture her essence in the lens.†Historical and cultural ramifications of dark complexion drives the motivation Childs ingeniously exploits. Models of diverse black tones and hues enjoy working with me for the opportunity of beautiful exposure in a different light.Childs also primarily channels his talents into weddings, glamour, and fine art. Currently his new Lust collection signifies his appreciation for the life of unrestricted urban nude art.
I try to shoot my best with all of my clients. One thing that is for sure, when you shoot with me we are not just taking pictures. It’s a production and you are the center of attention!
I photographed over 5,000 models during my career so far and I have encountered just about every type of model a photographer with experience can have. Many people love my work and I am happy to be loved in such a competitive field. My work can be seen on my official website at www.calvinchilds.com. So please visit the site, and enjoy!
