Richard Hollis

True Light Music Ministries would like to introduce Richard Hollis to our myspace friends and family. Soon, Richard Hollis will be a name that everyone will be asking about in gospel music and most importantly, the ministry. Richard Hollis has been called by God to spread the gospel throughout the world by way of the preached word and in song. He was anointed and gifted with an unmeasurable amount of favor at an early age, specifically for this special calling. One of Richard's favorite passages of scripture can be found in Habakkuk 2:3-4 which reads...For the vision is yet for an appointed, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it, because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. Richard Hollis was born and raised in Houston, Texas where singing and song-writing has been a part of his everyday life for the past fifteen years. He was born the son of a hard working, fire and brimstone preaching pentecostal pastor. Richard began to grow his love for music as a drummer at his dad's church shortly after his brother past. Richard would remain the lead drummer at True Light Church of God In Christ for the next ten years. Within that time he also became the drummer for the Texas South Central / Northwest Houston District Combined Choir. At the age of fourteen he began his singing career and later began to write gospel songs that he would sing for the congregation every Sunday. After several years of serving faithfully at True Light, Richard heard a style of music that was considered "swing music" and was made popular by De'avante Degrate of r & b group Jodeci. He fell in love with the ballads, harmonies and emotion that this style of music offered, but he soon found it was not welcomed in the church. After being rebuked and considered a heathen for the style of music that was now stuck in his soul, Richard began to write and submit songs to local high school singing groups that he later found himself becoming a member of. When his father found out that he was singing "secular music" he was upset and began to confront him about his choices. Needless to say this only spark more anger and rebellion in Richard's heart. This constant disapproval would only fuel the fire in Richard's heart and eventually cause him to become as the "prodigal son". For several years afterwards, Richard sang with the well known Houston based group named Treble. The group was one of the best in the city and won countless talent competitions for their soulful stylings and high energy performances. Treble seized opportunities to sing and perform for some of the biggest names in the music industry at that time. Music executives such as Matthew Knowles, now CEO of Music World Entertainment and manager of R&B sensation Beyonce Knowles, Gerald Busby and executive producer and actor Rushion McDonald. Treble went on to win a citywide talent showcase hosted by Rushion McDonald 7 consecutive times. In the midst of all of the buzz and recognition that Treble was beginning to create Richard knew that there was a calling in his life to do something more. While on a business trip in Manhattan the Lord began to deal with his heart. After meeting and performing for a major label A & R the group left with a tentative offer for a recording contract. Even through all this good news Richard could still hear that voice in his head saying,"YOUR WILL IS NOT MY WILL, YOUR WAY IS NOT MY WAY"! That night as the other members slept in the hotel room, Richard walked the streets of Manhattan with a heaviness over his heart. As he walked he put a cd that he had been given earlier that day at an r & b music conference. Little did he know that cd would change his life forever. The song "Coming Back Home" by BeBe Winans, Joe and Brian McKnight began to play and the hardened heart that had formed from years of rebellion and lewd living started to break. In the words of Richard himself, " I began to cry and I didn't know why I was crying. The front of my shirt was soaked in tears. God was using the very thing that I loved to draw me back to Him, the music. That following Sunday I gave my life to God and it was the best decision I've ever made. See I had been around the church and in the church all my life, but the church was never in me. I knew of Jesus, but I never knew Him! Oh, but that Sunday morning when I surrendered and Jesus entered my heart! My life hasn't and will never be the same again. Now it's time for me to give back what he's entrusted to me." The favor, anointing, and talent that God has blessed Richard to have has been brought fourth in the birth of his debut album entitled, "Brand New Start" which will be released on True Light Recordings in the January 2008. The single "Brand New Start" will be released in October 2007. In this project Richard prays that his listeners will find peace, hope, joy and love.
