I am here for Friends

About Me

I like to give peace signs. It is a trait I inherited from my father. I don't really believe in all that hippie crap though, unless it's the Asian adaptation which just means "let's party". I'm pretty much a bad person, but you still love me.

My Interests

getting lost in beautiful places, art therapy, art history/archaeology, painting, shopping for art supplies/thinking about art supplies/trying not to eat my sexy art supplies, making jewellery, travelling, exploring, listening to music/buying music/going to concerts/hanging out at local record stores, reading, writing articles that will never see the light of day, caffeinating myself, confusing people, covering things in gauze, portly bagels, yoga/pilates, philosophy, ethnomusicology, meeting people who teach me new things

I'd like to meet:

Meeting new people scares me, which stems from my days as a hermitty book-worm/child who lived under the stairs. Although I do like talking to people who are unconventional, a bit quirky and weird, and sometimes say funny or intellectual things.

Music:

I came to the realization today, that after my life/health and that of my friends and family, the thing I would hate to lose the most would be my CD collection. Priorities, priorities... That being said, I will say this, quite redundantly...I really love music. Here are some artists I especially enjoy: James Brown, Otis Redding, Elvis, Ted Leo+The Pharmacists, Sigur Ros, Manic Street Preachers, Beck, Weezer, Ben Folds, The Black Keys, Radiohead, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Cure, The Pixies, Pink Floyd, Fiona Apple, Cake, The Shins, Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Interpol, The Dears, Nick Drake, Tom Waits, Elliot Smith, The Clash, controller.controller, Modest Mouse, Wilco, Belle & Sebastian, The Decemberists, Badly Drawn Boy, The Hidden Cameras, Bright Eyes, The Arcade Fire, NERD, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Mr. Something Something, Esthero, Ehud Banai, Arkadi Duchin, Ivri Lider, Barry Sakharoff.

Movies:

Kill Bill, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Donnie Darko, Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous, Office Space, City of God, Amelie, The Matrix, Secretary, Death to Smoochy, Y Tu Mama También, Talk to Her, The Dreamers, Reality Bites, Motorcycle Diaries.

Books:

Anything by Chuck Palahniuk or Kurt Vonnegut, Timonthy Findley, Chuck Klosterman, Dave Eggers (especially "How We Are Hungry"); Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Time Traveller's Wife, The Red Tent, Imagining Argentina.

Heroes:

My 7 year old sister.

My Blog

construction

Lately I've been feeling slightly off centre. I haven't been able to pin it down exactly, and have mostly written it off as seasonal blues or boredom with routine or whatever it is makes most peo...

Glove departments

As items on to-do lists get checked off, and roommate's stuff and suitcases and dust mites fill the room, I can't help but feel the sense of impending doom. Or maybe that's the undercooked tofu I ate ...

Hfifa.

I need to get out of here...Just the other day, a friend asked me how I was dealing with being with my family for 2 weeks straight, and I was actually doing surprisingly well at the time. A few days l...

The orgasm of democracy (aka, voting in Israeli elections 2006!)

Today is the big day...my one big chance to have a say in what goes on in my country. Conveniently, with the knowledge that I only have to suffer the consequences (err...reap the rewards?) for the nex...

Caw caw caw caw caw.

So, last night I was snuggled in my bed, sound asleep, when a strange noise in my room suddenly wakes me. I look over the room, and what should I find sitting on my desk but our good friend RAT O...

What to do if you get your head stuck in a cottage cheese container

I just witnessed the funniest and simultaneously most pathetic episode while on a coffee break in the botanical gardens in the university. I'm sitting there in a crappy mood, having spent too many hou...

Arab villages sure are cool. (Hi mom!)

Up there on the list of things Jewish parents would probably not be super happy about their offspring doing while in Israel might appear the following item: visiting Arab villages. However, as it was ...

Counting sheep

Last night I couldn't fall asleep, and for a while I lay there in a semi-hypnotic trance induced by watching way too much T.V. (I was at my aunt's house for the weekend) and then turning off the ...

Welcome to Jerusalem

What a strange mood I'm in. Today was a very interesting cross-section of Jerusalem living. I spent the morning exploring one of the many fascinating historical, archaeological sites around the city- ...

It was something in the humous, I swear.

I just had such a lovely afternoon with my roommate, Amit, and her boyfriend. We drove to Abu Ghosh, which is notorious for their amazing humous- allegedly the best in Israel. It was some darn good hu...
