Hailing from Oakland, Calif., residing in Sacramento, DJ/Producer 7evin (pronounced “sevenâ€) is known for rocking parties and re-mixing songs live—and with more than 60 shows per year, he’s also known for being one of the most creative, hardest working musicians in the business.
7evin’s music—described by listeners as eclectic, fun, energetic and mind-bending—is free from classification, which allows the talented composer to virtually rewire the way in which our brains comprehend composition. And the way our world fluidly changes with each passing second, so does 7evin’s take on sound.
“Music chooses you,†he says, a motto proven by his inhuman obsession with the spiritual, social, political and revolutionary aspects of beats, melody and eclecticism. As a kid, 7evin dreamt altered and cryptic dreams, and as an adult, he recreates those dreams using a custom built PC computer, M-Audio Ozonic Midi Keyboard and an M-Audio Trigger Finger Drum Pad, with the occasional Rane Serato turntable thrown in for good measure. In essence, 7evin molds the pliable, incomprehensible dream-sounds in his head into something tangible, for music lovers to pick up and hold close to their hearts.
Whether he’s producing tracks for others or rocking live remixes, 7evin specializes in creating mood, feeding on the spiritual, maze-like space forest in which music lives. Yeah, he’s stuck in the matrix.
7evin has released numerous bootleg singles and his band 7: Es-El releases its debut album on a major label in June, 2008. Be on the lookout for his collaboration project with producer JustLuv, tentatively titled Just7.
