A recent artist statement...
"I am intrigued by the amalgam of all that is alive, called by whatever name one chooses, or by no name at all. I watch it progress through cycles, in which each mini-death can be the catalyst for a transformation of petals unfolding, renaissance blooming anew.
A component of this glorious amalgam, I have found myself influenced and inspired by that to which I am connected. In my mind's eye, numerous cultures, ancient and modern, meld together into one timeless vision. My creativity is further nourished by headwaters in the Wilderness, where a relative lack of synthetic distraction allows one to truly feel the Heartbeat, which pumps creation into every vessel.
Both an observer and a participant, I am a paintbrush-wielding note-taker in cyclical (non-linear) time, always amazed by the many little transformations that are scale models of the Transformation insufficiently comprehended in the two dimensions of mere allegory."

Fantasic Garden (detail) - acrylic on canvas

Deities Obsolete - acrylic on canvas

My Interests

The Graceful Ascension, acrylic (SOLD)

My interests include :

- art
- music
- organic veggies, fruits and "flowers"
- La Familia (biological and otherwise)
- bicycling
- hiking (especially glacial mountains, volcanoes, temperate rainforests...)
- international travel
- adventure
- magick (as opposed to magic)
- mysterious ancient cultures
- pondering the calendar's end
- Revolution and Transformation

Hombre de Maiz, ¡Levántate! - pen & ink

I'd like to meet:

Long-lost friends, people from cultures besides my own, visionaries, revolutionaries...

...and, of course, people whose lives revolve around art...artists, art collectors, the owners of art-related businesses, legitimate exhibition venues and publishing industry folk (magazines, lithographers, book publishers, etc.)

Music:

Castañuelas - acrylic

I passionately enjoy music of numerous genres, by many different artists, most of whom wouldn't be liked or even known about by those considered "cool". Having never been much of a sheep, this is fine by me.

El Barquero - acrylic and ink

Movies:

Forest of Illumination, acrylic on canvas

I prefer films with depth, and characters that are more than two-dimensional. This generally, but not always, translates to I prefer foreign films. I do have my guilty pleasures, though, but will spare myself the embarrassment of publicly airing the list. My other cinematic pleasure, which requires no guilt, is excellently rendered animation, almost all of which hails from Japan.

Television:

In my life, television exists only for the purpose of plugging in DVD players and VCRs to watch movies.

13 Ahau : Hesitation's Salt Pillar - acrylic on canvas

Books:

I enjoy books on metaphysical topics, political dissent, and also, fine art. Usually I read non-fiction and sometimes poetry. I enjoy a good novel from time to time, but honestly, I don't really have enough of it (time). When I do make time to read fiction, it's usually in Spanish, so that I can keep the dust from accumulating on my second-language skills. Cien Años de Soledad, the classic by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is one of my favourite Spanish-language novels of all time.

.. David, acrylic on wood panel ("frame" also hand-painted)

Heroes:

El Señor Marcos - acrylic on wood cabinet door, frame also hand-painted
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. - The Declaration of Independence of the United States of North America

MODERN DAY FOLK WITH GIANT CAJONES
-Freedom fighters worldwide, however slandered they may be in the media of a fascist society,
-...and, equally, I have to send some love to those who struggle for peace, cause that's really the answer when it's all said and done, and it takes great bravery to boldly cut right to it.
ARTIST HEROES:
Hieronymus Bosch
Patrick Woodroffe
Albrecht Dürer
Michael Parkes
Daniel Merriam
Francisco Goya
John Waterhouse
MC Escher
