Nayas was born at the end of 2001 when Soy Lopez and Luis Torrealva met in the heart of Washington DC. Sharing similar musical interests they started writing songs in a backyard surrounded by the smell of asaditos, the taste of cold beers, good friends, and the uncertainty of staying in the US. After years of playing and having several reincarnations, Nayas’ members are now: Soy Lopez, lead vocals/rhythm guitar; Luis Torrealva, lead vocals/base guitar; Joey Carrasquillo, vocals/percussions; and Names Thompson, drums/percussion and Lilo Gonzales, lead guitar/vocals
Nayas has now stepped up as one of the most important bands in the DC metropolitan area playing in community festivals, big performance venues, and intimate settings. Nayas has shared the stage with the names of Vilma Palma, Amigos Invisibles, El Gran Silencio, Kinky, Volumen Cero, Yerba Buena, Calle 13, Molotov, Papa Grows Funk, and fellow local bands.
They first self titled album is already available and they are currently recording their 2nd and going on tour this summer. "Nayas music is like a Shaman's bag with songs ranging from Reggae Roots stylee to Rock to frenzy dancing Ska and back to poetic South American style". Their lyrics come from a very personal vision of the world that is commonly shared between some people about happiness, appreciation of simplicity, relationships, community and friendship, everything spiced up with good humor and sending a positive message. Nayas members are from Uruguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, El Salvador and United States, you might see them in the neighborhood drinking pisco sours after midnight...
