About Me

Introducing Lungi
The South African music industry is getting ready to witness the coming of age of the amazing singing and song writing talents of an explosive R&B dynamo simply called Lungi.
Influenced by the music on South African radio that she was compelled to listen to growing up, it created a life long passion for music which Lungi has put into a musical beat of her own.
Born in Kwa-Zulu on a farm in Stanger to an Indian father and African mother, Lungi grew up struggling against the prejudices of South African society. She was lucky enough though to witness first hand her parents’ enduring love for each other, as well as their determination to rise above all of the challenges that their love presented. This Lungi credits as the reason why she has become a woman gifted with the powers of perseverance and self belief.
Lungi found solace in singing and the local choir provided her with an opportunity to conceive her vocal abilities and the skill to collaborate in harmonies with different musicians from different corners of the country.
Her burning passion for music compelled her to leave home and head for Johannesburg to pursue her dreams of being a professional recording artist .Her time in Johannesburg allowed her to gain a wide range of experiences some of which included:
• She entered Coca Cola Popstars and made it to the top 15 • Numerous appearances at Gallagher Estate for Presidential events and the honour of singing the national anthem. • A number of corporate performances at Gold Reef City and Carnival City • Backing vocals for superstars Loyiso and Lebo Mathosa in concert • Lots of voice over work outside South Africa for Fanta and numerous other television and radio adverts
This talented singer and songwriter, credits her background and childhood, for culturally generating her creativity as an aspiring artist. Versatility, combined with her effortless vocal skills and dynamic charisma, influenced by her unique cultural background has allowed Lungi to create her own uniquely South African R&B sound. Her song writing is filled with overflowing insight and wisdom of roads travelled, lives lived and emotional experiences which Lungi describes as an x-ray of her inner feelings.
I Will
Lungi’s first single to be released “I Will” is the fore runner of an album of songs destined to challenge the South African musical landscape. Born out of her own personal experiences “I Will" is a song of hope and love which Lungi wrote and dedicates to all of those who are diagnosed with terminal illnesses and their loved ones who suffer through their ordeals with them.
Particularly because of HIV/Aids, we find that so many people are going through the process of watching loved ones pass away. The song is about giving hope to those who are ill, through the love and friendship of those around them. With the advances in technology and your faith, no matter what religion you belong to, most diseases can be beaten, including HIV and Aids. With her pure and hauntingly beautiful vocals which are sung over a melange of harmonies her song is the type that touches the soul.
Music for Lungi’s is produced by Alexis Faku, the renowned producer who has worked with and produced a number of hits for the cream of local artists such as Hugh Masekela, Judith Sepuma, Danny K , Jae, Loyiso, TK, Lebo Mathosa and Denim, just to name a few.
Her full debut album as yet untitled will be released at the end of September 2007, with her second single surely destined to be one of the forthcoming summers’ party jams.
Lungis’ career is supported by a comprehensive professional business and marketing plan.
Lungi is to be marketed by Durban’s fastest growing independent record company, NB Music Records, the company responsible for successfully launching, sustaining and marketing Durban’s very own singing sensation Jae. Noel Kok director of NB Music Records describes Lungi as “a star whose time has come”.
He explains that as a Durban based company they are extremely proud to be involved in the career of yet another KZN born artist who is destined for stardom.
Her live performances will be supported by a seven piece live band comprising of the most talented musicians in the country. In addition she has her own stable of dancers as well as a professional road manager to handle her affairs whilst touring.
Even though Lungi is Proudly South African this songstress is setting her sights beyond the impressive local music industry and plans are well in advance for an international release.
Fuelled with will power and creative music flair Lungi says “I Will”, become one of South Africa’s greatest exports…
