About Me

“Los Gatos Salvajes' sound has become recognized as a pioneer of the genuine garage sound. This came to my attention during the 90s in Spain when one of my piano students, who was part of the "garage scene" in Getafe, near Madrid, brought me a Gatos Salvajes CD and asked how it could possibly be that even back in 1964 we shared the same musical aesthetics. I wasn't really able to give him an answer on the spot. Looking back I think that what gave us that sound was "Chango" Pueblas's guitar and the Farfisa organ. Our love for Rhythm & Blues and the English Mersey sound completed the mix.” (Ciro Fogliatta – Los Gatos Salvajes)“The primitive and only album by Los Gatos Salvajes, recorded and released in Argentina in 1965, has been re-released in Europe* as it now happens in the U.S. through No Fun Records. I jokingly told my bandmates "someone should release the album on the moon next." The way the songs are composed is refreshing, in the way that a 15-year old can only do. Along with the rhythmic structure of the Mersey Beat, the melody of these songs also displays a great deal of our idiosyncrasy through elements of tango and boleros. I think that's where the real original value of that creative time lies.” (Litto Nebbia – Los Gatos Salvajes)[*In a different format and with different, non-original artwork]No Fun Records proudly presents this musical milestone, a definite masterpiece and cult recording in terms of Latin American, or even worldwide, Beat music. Los Gatos Salvajes started out as a group of young teenagers from Rosario (a significant capital city of one of the Argentine provinces) obsessed with the British Invasion, who went on to make history with their music. They were ahead of their time and place, especially if compared with their more adult contemporaries, who had not yet shown any signs of the Beatles, the Stones or Yardbirds (although they would pick up on them a couple years later). Los Gatos Salvajes were different; their compositions were stripped down, primitive, and their sound was repetitive, filled with beat-sounding guitars and Farfisa organ, at a time in history when this was not exactly considered an asset. More than anything, they were original, becoming the first band to compose and sing original songs in Spanish. And, as these recordings show, they were Salvajes indeed, both live and in the studio.Los Gatos Salvajes started out in 1964 under the name of The Wild Cats. They switched to using the Spanish version of their name when Litto Nebbia joined them and the band moved to Buenos Aires. Once in the big city, they were hired by a national TV station to be showcased live, where they recorded a few singles. In 1965 they released their self-titled first album, which manifested and immortalized the musical wealth this young band was capable of, even when it was based on the simplicity of their compositions, as it often happens with such things.Soon after the release of their full length, some of the band members returned to Rosario. The band members that remained in Buenos Aires (with Litto Nebbia as the band leader) shortened the band’s name to Los Gatos and continued on with great success (they released the best selling single in the history of the music industry in Argentina). But we’ll get to that some other time.No Fun Records puts on its best pair of Beatle boots to welcome this release, which is no less then a double release in LP and CD. We are re-releasing the LP exactly as it came out in 1965, both in terms of artwork and sound, and it’s the first time in history that this album is re-released in such a way. The CD features outstanding artwork, especially designed to reflect the spirit of 1965, and photographs never seen before. It also features special liner notes by Litto Nebbia y Ciro Fogliatta, and a total of 27 tracks, which make up the entire album, all of the band’s singles, TV performances, live recordings, and home demos. Absolutely everything the band ever recorded. This record got the history of beat, garage, and even psych music started in Argentina and other parts of Latin America.Ladies and Gentlemen: Los Gatos Salvajes.NO FUN RECORDS, LLC PO Box 8154 Ann Arbor, MI 48107 USA www.nofunrecords.com [email protected] history on Los Gatos Salvajes:http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/waterloo/728/magiclan d/beat.htmlhttp://www.rock.com.ar/bios/0/339.shtmlhttp://www .geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Limo/3942/gatos.html
