Influences: I have many influences including Daryl Hall & John Oates who are MAJOR influences lyrically and musically for me. In my opinion they are in a class of their own. Daryl wrote "Everytime You Go Away" which is better known by Paul Young, but I think the definitive version appears on their "Voices" album from 1980. Gary Barlow is a big songwriting influence for me, also, along with Elliott Kennedy of True North Music Company. They have written/produced "Guilty" for Blue, "Not Me, Not I" for Delta Goodrem and more recently "Easy Way Out" for Charlotte Church. For me, after Hall & Oates, Lennon/McCartney & Elton & Bernie they are in the top 5 songwriting duo's in the world. Paul Carrack is major influence too. He has had a lot of success with Ace, Squeeze and Mike & The Mechanics but in my opinion his more recent solo material is far greater and more to my taste. Another MAJOR influence of mine is Country Music. People like Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Leann Rimes influence me deeply with their song choices. Songs like "If You're Reading This", which Tim McGraw has just added to his latest album, influence me in so many ways. So as you can see I am not so much influenced by specific artists as much as I am by the songs they write or songs they choose to sing, (except maybe Daryl Hall, fantastic voice. That man can sing anything). It makes for a very diverse range of musical preferences, for me its all about the songs, the way they sound and how they are written. So thats me - Simple!!!
