croon papillon - a sleepy butterfly

About Me

Note: this is a stratocaster-type guitar I assembled from replacement-parts and illustrated myself. It is NOT a Flaxwood guitar! Go to the Flaxwood website to take a look at available models and get further information!
In Englisch (incomplete):
croon papillon is a project of triggercult. "[...] it's another entry on the neverending to-do-list, where the word deadline is without meaning, but abandoned projects have their own graveyard..."
Sketching music with guitar, voice and other instruments. improvisation, some composition. the fleeting presence of movement. it's not the drawing or the recording that remembers the movement, but the body of the artist.
In a nutshell these musical sketches are much like conventional sketches done with pencil and paper, although the latter are much more respected and accepted than the former...
They are "produced" by an artist or rather are the by-product of his movement. The sketches document some of his movement - where pencil meets paper, or fingers fret chords and strum strings. When sketching one is not drawing precisely. The goal is not exactness.
Sketches help to find new forms, that is new movement. And like the eye responds to the sketch and find some lines beautiful, others faulty, the ear responds to the musical sketches. Recorded musical sketches can be studied, but give insight into the process only if the actual movement was recorded as well (meaning video-recordings).
Viewing sketches, drawings or paintings and analysing technique and ductus yield no great insight if the movement of the artist cannot be followed. Likewise it is unlikely you can learn to play an instrument merely by listening to recordings - although the aquisition of a musical ear is important.
What is not kept within the sketch or recording is the movement of the artist. But it is kept in the memory of the body of the artist who performed the movement. The key to playing an instrument or drawing is in understanding the movement.
But ultimately not the movement of the other artist - but one's own. So, apart from musical theory and some basic technique it is the exploration of movement which I think is important. As an artist with pencil and paper as well as with guitar and voice or other instruments.
These musical sketches are not for showing off skill. They are faulty in some ways, but free improvisations based upon movement, the ear and reaction to what has been just played. It's like free verse, spontaneous poetry, scribblings with pen and paper.
The sketches can be used as the basis for further studies or works of art. It does not matter, though, if the artist uses them for further work. It is important that he performed, that the memory of the movement is kept not within the sketch, but within the body and brain of the artist.
Enjoy!

Note: If you want croon papillon as a MySpace-Friend feel free to send a request. But please understand that never getting messages from MySpace-Friends is quite disappointing - so, write me once in a while, or leave a comment... croon papillon is not Steve Vai, so I guess you won't add me to your top40 just to show off how you idolize me (and I wouldn't want that, anyway)... but if you like what I do (or don't like it...), and want to get into contact, and share some thoughts about music and guitar-playing (or anything else) in a while - write me some lines. I will write back! All others who just need to raise their friends-score, or want to sell their band clothing... go play somewhere else.
Note also, that my Top40 is featuring friends, as well as bands or people I think are great. I will shuffle the top friends once in a while to show that I like and listen to different people.
I am not endorsed by Flaxwood Guitars, EMG pickups, Hughes&Kettner amplifications, or Steinberg Cubase products. I just use some of the equipment, and in the case of Flaxwood guitars, am very fond of the product and philosophy - but I don't own a Flaxwood guitar, yet.
