BIOGRAPHY:
IMMORTAL AVENGER is a Thrash/Heavy Metal band from Richmond, Virginia. The band started as almost a "Maiden-esque" Power Metal outfit back in 2003. The most notable founding member and "idea-man" was Municipal Waste guitarist, Ryan Waste, who actually played Bass in IA, instead of guitar. IMMORTAL AVENGER started off as somewhat of a "just-for-fun" kind of band, but began to get serious very quickly. This, of course, led to a few line up changes due to people's abilities to tour and commit. Sometimes people's musical interests just lay elsewhere. Either way, the band has forged ahead, slowly finding it's sound. As time has gone by, there has been a significant shift in the band's focus. The music has slowly become angrier and more aggressive. More and more Bay-Area Thrash has begun to show itself in the songs. This aggression not only indulges the band members themselves, but also seems to be gaining them more and more fans at a rapid rate.
In May of 2008, with the departure of singer Johnny Throckmorton, also formerly of Alabama Thunderpussy (Relapse), IMMORTAL AVENGER is setting out towards even more aggressive and progressive territory with the addition of Mike Parks. Mike has a background filled with not only Thrash and Heavy Metal, but also Death and Black Metal. Finish off the line up with the well-rounded and capable musicianship of Wes Derrickson, David Fugman, Richard Gibson, and founding guitarist Tommy Gun, and you've got one mean machine! This is not some "breath of fresh air" for IMMORTAL AVENGER. They've just left the starting gate... at full throttle.

REVIEWS:
**Immortal Avenger is a Richmond-based heavy metal band whose only real interest is to put on a raucous show. They are unsigned and without a label, so the material that they are putting forth is theirs, and reflective of them alone. It has been described as the sound of true heavy metal, and for good reason.

**...The band tore through a full set of story-songs in the grand tradition of Iron Maiden, complete with soaring guitar solos, a thunderous low-end rhythm section and melodic vocals. Songs such as “Lost at Sea†took listeners on fantastic voyages with Immortal Avenger at the helm.

**Richmond, Virginia’s Immortal Avenger is bringing it back old-school on their follow-up EP to Valor and Justice and damn I’m digging the hell out of this new material on all counts. Their debut was totally classic metal in the vein of Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest, early Blind Guardian, Exodus, Thin Lizzy etc. filled to the brim with kingly riffs, harmonies, solos and an over the top vocalist with superb range.
This new EP completely blows Valor and Justice out of the water with a far more focused sound and direction. This could be due to the fact that the band has undergone some line-up changes including adding ex-Alabama Thunder Pussy vocalist Johnny Throckmorton to the mix. I always was a big fan of Johnny’s style and even though I couldn’t picture him behind the mic for these guys, I still was imagining something pretty unique with him in the ranks. After seeing them live on tour for this EP, I was completely blown away and convinced that Johnny is the perfect fit for Immortal Avenger’s galloping assault.
Everything about this EP is killer as it combines tight, concise song-writing, epic guitar work, powerful rhythms and the gritty, soulful delivery of Throckmorton to add the icing on the cake....
All in all, I’m highly impressed by these guys once again and it is great to see Throckmorton back in action. Pick up both of these EPs and make sure if they come to your town that you don’t miss their live set as they will surely blow you off the map with their amazing performance and presence! If you dig old school metal with plenty of unique flourishes and great song-writing, then Immortal Avenger is certainly going to be a godsend for the rabid metal fan.

**After their full-length debut Valor and justice (2005), here’s a welcome sign of life from Richmond, VA’s finest, Immortal Avenger. For their recently released the EP Sound the alarm the band has shifted personnel, but again manages to crank out some tunes that leave no doubts as to their qualities as songwriters and performers. Replacing vocalist Brent Hubbard is Johnny Throckmorton, whose voice sounds like he eats Jack Daniels and drinks tobacco for breakfast. This guy has muscle on his tonsils! Immortal Avenger are lucky to have found a man with exactly the charisma that is all too often lacking with contemporary metal singers, who either emulate classic Tate/Dickinson or fail to produce any melody whatsoever (fill in the nu/death/black/gurgle metal orchestra of your choice).
...Sound the alarm is a quantum leap for the band whose previous album Valor and justice had a sound that one would have to diplomatically label as ‘adventurous’. So there’s two reasons now for Immortal Avenger to re-record the brilliant track ‘Twilight victory’ off the first disc: Johnny on vocals and production by Heath Padrick. Think about it, guys. And while you’re at it, a new version of the furious instrumental ‘Valor and justice’ as a bonus track with the next album wouldn’t hurt either.
...Yet again here’s a band that has talent and energy in spades and should be treated accordingly by record labels. Let’s hope Immortal Avenger stick it out until then. The EP can be ordered from the band directly or from Helmut Müller’s Underground Power Distro in Germany.
