The year was 1998: Smoking had just been banned in California restaurants, President Clinton was denying “…sexual relations with that woman,†and three 12-year-olds boys were carving wooden spoons in their 5th period shop class. Over rasp and file they began to talk. Young Joe Senna (guitar/vocals), Blake Spurlock (guitar/vocals), and Minh Ngo (drums) soon realized they all shared the same musical dream. It was here, right before lunch in a suburban Sacramento classroom, that an enduring friendship and middle school band were born.
At this point in their career the young musicians had but one goal in mind, to rock the 8th grade talent show. They recruited bassist Jason Brown and immediately set to work. The talent show stardom was short lived, but the four 12-year-olds continued to play music together. Joe, Blake, Minh, and Jason spent the next few years playing music and growing up together.
Four years after playing their first show, in 2002, Lynus was in full swing. With Joe establishing himself as a formidable vocalist, Lynus was able to craft a unique sound that garnered them much attention. They began to tour the west coast relentlessly, eventually earning a spot on the Vans Warped Tour. Not a single member was yet 18-years-old.
In 2004 Lynus recorded their first EP, “Hang In There Holly Near.†The now seasoned Musicians went back on the road in support. But, the touring began to take a toll.
In 2006, after 8 years of musical routine, the members struggled to hold onto the freshness of music that once made them happy. Lynus was about to face its biggest crisis since forming: bassist, and longtime friend, Jason Brown left the band. Joe, Blake, and Minh, were now a three piece.
However, it didn’t take long to fill the spot. A longtime friend of Lynus introduced them to veteran bassist Tim Feerick. After a few months of rehearsal Tim was formally asked to join the band. With the new lineup established, Joe began to write fresh material.
Lynus quickly realized they were onto something. The chemistry and creativity were both stronger than ever. As songs began to take shape plans to record a full album were made. In April of 2008 that record, “Nice Outside,†was released to excited fans and critical acclaim. The first single “PJ Soles†was quickly picked up by Sacramento’s KWOD (106.5). With a great album and the entire city of Sacramento behind them, Lynus is surely a band to watch

Here's what people are saying about Lynus:
"...In a world chock-full of crappy copy-cat Indie bands, Lynus has developed an eclectic sound that is truly their own. They remind me of my favorite things about bands like the Pixies, Dashboard Confessional, Weezer (mainly “Pinkertonâ€), and Modest Mouse, plus something a little more danceable (like Pets maybe?). Some of the more complicated guitar bits even remind me of Metallica’s early ballads, with a gritty feedback sound reminiscent of Nirvana. Like I said, a very diverse mix of styles that they have adapted and made their own..."

"...Lynus is a 4 piece indie rock band that will be on the top of every college play list (if given the chance). If you are a fan of melodic music with infectious choruses that don't scream pop nor mainstream radio then you should like them. Kinda has a Weezer meets Death Cab for Cutie meets a blunt on a rainy day vibe..."

"Ten years of writing, practicing, and performing have polished Lynus into a refined and inventive group of musicians. In a music industry weighed down by mediocrity and conventionality, I can only shake my head when I see “Label: none†next to Lynus’ name. This is music to which everyone can rock and it’s about time these guys got the attention they deserve."

"Sacramento has a way of producing great pop bands that just don't fit the traditional mold. Hailing from California's capitol city, Lynus has fully embraced this tradition. Their critically acclaimed debut, Nice Outside, is chock-full of melodic guitar lines, vocal harmonies, and playful rhythms. It's true that these are all things you should expect from an album of this caliber. However. it's the things you don't expect (unique tunings, intelligent lyrics, and clever song structures) that will make you fall in love with this album over and over again. Think Pixies, Weezer, Beach Boys, and Vampire Weekend."
