Lalia (2004-2007)

Are you docile? Are you tame?

About Me

Equal parts bittersweet melodies and crushing heaviness, Lalia formed in 2004 over a shared fondness for the misuse of fuzz pedals and china cymbals in pursuit of loud and pretty noises.

Press

"PJ Harvey-esque vocals and trashy punk guitars." (Eastern Daily Press)

"There's loads of good bands springing up in Norwich right now (Tiger MCs, The Elephant Dress, Bearsuit). This lot sound a bit like the Breeders and are a worthy addition to the list." (NME)

"What I saw of the first band Lalia was pretty impressive. It's always good to see a female-fronted band, especially in front of a big fire." (Play Magazine)

The end

Lalia decided to take a break late in 2006. The tragic and untimely death of Ben Shepherd in May 2007 spelled the end for the band, though we (Angela and Rob) performed as Lalia one last time at Ben's wake on 23 June 2007. While we will continue to write and play, both together and in other projects, we feel that Lalia was definitely Ben's band and with this in mind, the name should be laid to rest along with him.

Our intention is to create an archive of live Lalia photos and any other media available, and for this page to be a commemoration both of Ben's life and the music he loved. If you have any material you wish to contribute, please contact us. Please feel free to share any memories of Ben by leaving a comment.
