At a time when music is dominated by Dance and Rap, ROCKBAND brings raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the charts. They are not perfect; they are ugly, violent; they are also, vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive, as their breakthrough hit "Beautiful Crisis" shows. While Seifert and Lemmy ferociously spit out dueling guitar riffs worthy of any punk or metal band, Tod screeches out his tales of sex, drugs, and apathy; bassist Sonrodes and drummer Chris Emery are a limber rhythm section that keep the music loose and powerful. ROCKBAND' music is basic and gritty, with a solid hard, bluesy base; they are dark, sleazy, dirty, and honest, everything that a good hard rock and heavy metal band should be. There is something refreshing about a band that could provoke everything from devotion to hatred. There hasn't been a hard rock band this raw or talented in years, and they are given added weight by Tod's primal rage, the sound of confused, frustrated white trash vying for his piece of the pie. As 2008 rolls on there simply isn’t a more interesting band around. ROCKBAND released their first EP in 1999, which led to a contract with KeepYourfaith Music; the following year, the band released their debut album, Odyssey Of Repression. They started to build a following with their numerous live shows, but the album didn't start selling until almost a year later, when various radio DJs started playing "My Muse." Soon, both the album and single made it onto the college radio charts, and ROCKBAND became one of the biggest bands around. Their debut single "My Muse" was re-released and shot into the Top Ten and "What am I" followed in its footsteps. By the end of 2001, they released a 5 song E.P, which paired four new songs (including the Top Five hit "And") with their first EP. RockBand' inflammatory closer "Killer" sparked intense controversy, as Tod slipped into pure violence; essentially, he somehow managed to distill every form of primal dissatisfaction into one five-minute tune. ROCKBAND began work on the long-awaited follow-up to odyssey at the end of 2003. In October of that year, the band fired Paul Smith, claiming that his drug dependency caused him to play poorly; he was replaced by Chris Emery from American Headcharge. During recording, the band continued to use Brian Bart as producer. By the time the sessions were near completion, the new album had started to evolve. After being delayed for nearly a year, the album RockRecord is due out in early 2008. Messy but fascinating, RockRecord showcases a more ambitious band; while there are still a fair number of full-throttle guitar rockers, there are stabs at larger-style song structure, and a good number of introspective, soul-searching lyrics. In short, they are now making art; amazingly, they are successful at it.
