Bio:
Gross National Produkt started out in 1997 as a nameless idea that two friends shared. This idea consisted of a desire to create a hybrid of electronic, industrial music that always incorporated new elements and always strived to make each track different from the next.
Not too long after the birth of GNP one of the parents (Martin Davis) had to move to a location where further involment in the raising of GNP was pretty much impossible. Since then Riki Rezinunts, now the only member of GNP, has carried out this idea on his own since 1998.
In 1999 GNP released a promotional album called 'Meat Market' which was limited to 500 copies in Europe with the label AVA/ES1. This release was non profitable and was only a promotional deal that was cut out of friendship between GNP and BaaL, the owner and producer of AVA/ES1. In 2001 GNP independantly funded and released it's second album dubed 'Disturbed Spaces'. This album was a turning point in the evolution of GNPs sound as it showed that Riki had broken away from his more strickyly minimal ambient/experimental textures and was now showing a more harder dancefloor edge while still maintaining an ambiant backbone. The incorporation of jungle, drum and bass, break-beat and other percussion driven genres added a new dimension to the sound and further built upon the idea that was incubated in 97.
In 2002 Gross National Produkt released it's most ambitious title thus far through Meat Market Industries, Riki's own independent label & distro which he initially created to release and distribute his Gross National Produkt material exclusively. The new album was entitled 'Enslave' and it encompassed most fans favorite GNP tracks at the time. The reason for this might have been that it was the most vocally involved GNP title to date, with more than half of the songs having vocals. Prior to this release GNP was primarily an instrumental projekt. This new element was a major progression for Riki as his vocal ability was really starting to show itself to him. As a whole the 'Enslave' album is a medley of pounding electronic rythms, mechanical and ambient driven backgrounds with a certain focus on intensity arranged in a very intriguing and at times classical way. Most of the release is polliticaly and socially driven which is evident when you listen to most of the vocal tracks (Already Dead, MadUSA Flank, Soldier, RobotzZzZz). The album title itself and the three title tracks that go along with it (enslave pt1-3) are built around the idea that the public are brought into a state of disinformation and fear through the media and the politicians who use them and throw them away. Who lie to us on a day to day basis right in our faces and the public is none the wiser. The brainwashing and control over true and factual data. It is enslavement.
Later in Decemeber of that same year Gross National Produkt appeared on the Trinity Compilation, launched by Darkcell Digitial Music with the likes of Spahn Ranch, Goteki, Fiction 8, and Others. The song was a favorite of many fans and also appeared on the Enslave album released earlier that year. "Coagulate" was the track and it was placed at track 12 inbetween Goteki and Freudstein .
In mid 2003 Gross National Produkt finished it's fourth release, 'The Death Among Us'. This has been considered by GNP fans as Riki's most developed and matured release so far. Much less political and anti-capitalistic driven, it focuses more on the 'simpler' pains in life and the emotions that everyone can relate to. Love, betrayl, confusion, alienation and focus on a particular person is the main theme of this release. It also captures GNP's most dominant vocal works so far which includes only two instrumental tracks out of the total fourteen. A major step forward compared to the Enslave album which featured only six tracks which included vocals. Another major progression is the artwork contained in this release. The special edition (currently out of print) features a 31 page booklet containing incredible artwork by an insanely talented artist, Jamason Finn of C.E.O. Design. He also designed the cover, back-cover and cd-tray inlay which brings it up to 34 pages of incredible artwork. The standard version is condensed down to a four page insert with, double-sided tray inlay and a different front and back cover. This release also brought forth the first GNP music videos which were for the tracks 'Naqoyqatsi' and 'It's OK'.
Since the release of 'The Death Amung Us' Riki has been quite busy in many regards. Some good, some bad but, all of them, a learning experience. Since that time Riki has started and/or become involved in numerous side projekts/colabs such as Soundskrapes, Komatose Void, Extropy Nervosa, Blood Ties, Set for Deletion, Thee Rezinunts Muzik Projekt, and Brother Cement. This is only one reason why it took three years to release an EP but, one of the good reasons. And this release is 'Quaque: [Die]', a brilliant and original idea in collaboration. Jamason Finn, a long time friend/supporter/fan/visual contributor of GNP came to Riki with an idea. This idea was to supply Riki with all materials such as story, lyrics, song titles, visuals, and ideals for a small three track single release but none of the musical elements. Riki's job was to take it all, put his own ideas and conclusions aside as best he could in regards to this subjective material and make music out of it as if were coming from the mind of the person supplying these subjective materials. It was quite a challenge but came out beautifully. Some of the best GNP material ever is on this release and it grew from three tracks to five due to all the material Riki was able to come up with. These added tracks are simply an intro and outro but, none the less came from the subjective materials brought forth by Jamason Finn. The future for GNP, as far as it can be seen holds an upcoming full-lenth release for January 25th of 2007 entitled 'Intensities, Sonics, and Extremes' which is exactly that. No overall theme or subject matter, just observations and criticisms, assaults on and reverence for a number of things.
