Jean-Patrick Merlino, pianist, singer is from la Turbie (06 Alpes Maritimes – France).
Coming out of a family where art, including the music is part of everyday life. His uncle Patrick Meroni is lyrical professional singer and her aunt, Nadia Meroni is also singer of lyrical and variety internationally. As a young age, he discovered especially music through his parents Jacques and Katia Merlino.His father being guitarist and pianist and his mother is a lyrical and variety singer. Thanks to them he opens on differents musicals universes: classic (Bach, Beethoven..), Latin music Latin jazz, jazz (Gilberto Gill, Stan Getz, Franck Sinatra..), French variety (Brassens, Sinatra, …) International and (Wham, Mickael Jackson …) world music…
The uncle of his father, Ruy Blas Mana (saxophoniste Sop., Alt., Bar., And clarinetist), allowed him to address the music of a different way and the push to solfeggio. He made its first step on the old organ of his father in trying to replicate what he means, he learns self and studying as soon as the age of 6 years the solfeggio at the Academy of Music in Monaco, this for 7 years.
1990-1996 French variety period (Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel, Jacques Brel, Liane Foly …) and international (Mickael Jackson, Toto, Daft Punk, George Michael, Queen, U2, Police, Sting …)
At 16 years, he sings and plays in a workshop for young rock at the academy municipal Beausoleil. At a concert of end of year in 1997 he discovers the workshop of current music of Jean-Manuel Jimenez (Pianiste, composer, arranger professor of jazz and actual musique; http://www.jazzophie.com/ ). He follows then underway to jazz harmony, piano-jazz and participates in the workshop. This meeting will totally changed his gaze on music and him to discover the universe of jazz.
From 2000, when he goes, small jobs and piano for several years, sings and plays in different local groups of variety and jazz. He occurs in Germany, Monaco and France in various concerts.
2001 Lounge French house period, discovers the universe of Saint-Germain and of Shazz.
From 2006, he decides to invest entirely in the music and takes courses of harmony, piano-jazz and arrangement, with Jean-Manuel Jimenez at the Conservatory of Music and Drama from Antibes Juans-Les-Pins. With him, he perfects the interpretation, improvisation and discovers Bill Evans, Mac Coy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk …
Same year he meets Gérard Wisniewski (Flûtiste) with which he will happen in the PACA region. That meeting will also allow him to deepen his knowledge of the computer assisted music (MAO).
Thanks to Jean-Manuel Jimenez he mades the acquaintance of various professional musicians of the PACA region and occurs in jazz trio:
