Premise
Humankind has been arguing over religion, politics and ideology for thousands of years. We are no closer to agreeing on any of these topics, than we are to finding a cure for death. And I fear we will perish in the effort. However, there is one thing I believe we all agree on: harming another human being is bad.
It may sound silly. It may sound simple, but imagine this. Imagine a world in which no one harms a fellow human being for one day. I guarantee you something very close to paradise would appear on Earth. What we do once that day arrives we can decide later. At that point, the world becomes our playground, and I'm sure the next step will be clear. We, first, need to get there.
And so I ask a favor of you. It is the only favor I can imagine asking. I ask you to pledge to not harm anyone for at least a day. I know you, and I know it's in you. What this pledge means for you will be different than for anyone else. Examine your life, your actions and the actions of others for which you can take responsibility, and for at least a day, make sure they harm no one. You pledge by going to www.noharmday.com and registering your name and location. With that simple step, you will be joining a growing number of people in this pledge. It is a pledge blind to borders and deaf to cultural, religious and political differences. It is a pledge that reaches the soul. We will not declare an official day until we reach 100,000 participants, a fraction of humanity and an easy first step. Until then, you can have your own No Harm Day every day. I encourage you to share your story on our site.
