Influences: Influences are vast and there's nearly too many to even list...but it's worth a shot. Of course, there are non-musical influences; the kinds of things that shape someone as a musician and how they approach music, and what I'm getting at here, of course, are things like Faith and life experiences. Despite the myriad of bands I'm into (some of them heavy metal in nature), I proudly wear the badge as a person of faith...faith in God. There are some who think that makes one soft, of course, but anyone who's heard me play the "heavy" stuff knows I'm far from it, so there you have it. There are, of course, specific drumming influences, and then there are overall musical influences. Drumming-wise it all began with Ringo Starr as a child listening to the Beatles. Soon thereafter, Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones factored into the mix, along with the great John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Ginger Baker of Cream, Bill Ward of Black Sabbath, and the great drummers of Motown (the "Funk Brothers"). One of the greatest influences during the past many years has been Neil Peart of Rush, for obvious reasons. Oh yeah, Dave Grohl rocks pretty hard do, as does J.P. Gaster of Clutch (even if I don't really like the new direction of the band). There are, of course many other amazing drummers that have provided inspiration along the way, including Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, John Stanier of Helmet, Ted Parsons of Prong, and countless others. In a general music sense, it all began with the Beatles and continued on through the years with the Rolling Stones, the Monkees (underrated pop band), Led Zeppelin, Cream, King Crimson, Traffic, early Genesis, Motown (as well as the entire 60s/70s soul, funk, and R&B scene), Steely Dan, ELO (you just GOTTA love ELO!), Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Pink Floyd, RUSH, AC/DC, Big Star, English Beat, The Specials, Sly and the Family Stone, Isaac Hayes (Stax=SOULSVILLE), Otis Redding, The Who, The Kinks, and tons of more obscure late 60s acid rock bands, oh and let's not forget about Arthur Lee and Love, Dinosaur Jr, Emerson/Lake/Palmer, Prong, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Adrian Belew, Peter Gabriel, Wilco, Blue Mountain, Son Volt, Living Colour, Metallica, Ministry, Pantera, Sleep, Smashing Pumpkins, and countless others. Current bands of interest include the re-formed Celtic Frost, The Sword, Torche, Teeth of the Hydra, Lair of the Minotaur, Unearth, Big Business, Jesu, Intronaut, A Place of Skulls, Interpol, Spoon, SLOAN, ...the list goes on and on, and there are always new musical discoveries every day...it's actually sort of silly to try to list them, but there's a few anyway...
