MUSIC, reading, writing, philosophy, psychology, family/pals, and activism consume my life. Yeah, that's right. I'm a nerd.
I also happen to have the most AMAZING man in my life. He's not a hobby, though - he's my heart. :) I am quite a blessed lady, and I find new reasons to adore him every day.
F. Scott Fitzgerald and C.S. Lewis (so I could express my immense gratitude for their talent), Maynard James Keenan (I want to understand him), Carl Jung (because no other person has ever been so RIGHT!), Abraham Maslow (to thank him for the enlightenment), and Gloria Steinhem (to thank her for dorking things up for our gender).
Why am I on MySpace? To promote great music, keep up with my long-distance pals, and post the occasional blog. I am not on here to promote myself, be cyber-stalked, contend with drama, or find a dude. I am very contented with my life and my relationship. :)
First of all, let it be stated for the record that Warren Haynes and Bob Dylan have forever changed the way I experience music. Music doesn't have to be something that you "get," it can be something that gets you. Let it hold you steady in its grasp, and let it transform your soul.
This video would be a good start! :)
Gov't Mule's "Million Miles from Yesterday"
This one could be a catalyst, too. :)
Kevn Kinney's STAR, "Sun Tangled Angel Revival"
Mr. Kinney is perhaps the most under-rated songwriter on the planet. He's simply amazing. Listen. Enjoy.
I'm a music person, so this could take a boring while.
Let me just hit ya' with my Top 20:
Alice in Chains
The Allman Brothers Band
Andrew Black (in any incarnation . . . AB can do it all!)
The Band
The Beatles
Candlebox
The Derek Trucks Band
Bob Dylan
Gov't Mule (and anything else Warren Haynes does!)
The Grateful Dead
Honeytribe
Kevn Kinney (solo, STAR, Drivin' N' Cryin')
Shawn Mullins
Oteil & The Peacemakers
Pearl Jam
Peter, Paul, & Mary
Robert Randolph & the Family Band
The Tony Tyler Trance
U2
The Who
Mostly indie stuff. Michael Mann is fantastic, as is Kevin Smith. My favorite actors are Benecio del Toro, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Edward Norton. My favorite actresses are Emma Thompson, Bette Davis, and Helena Bonham Carter.
X Files, Intervention, Dog the Bounty Hunter, and anything on Animal Planet. :)
C.S. Lewis, William F. Buckley Jr., Carl Jung, Kurt Vonnegut, Wendell Berry, Tennessee Williams, Oscar Wilde, Michael Chabon, Jack Kerouac, Francis Schaeffer, and of course, Hunter S. Thompson. Fitzgerald is my guilty pleasure. I do read mostly non-fiction though.
Note: I've just recently discovered Donald Miller, and his words are changing, confirming, and affirming my life. Thanks, Don!
My grandparents and parents, William F. Buckley Jr., and C.S. Lewis.
WILLIAM F. BUCKLEY JR. (1925-2008)
Rest peacefully in eternal splendor, in the presence of your Creator and in the arms of your True Love. Your absence will certainly be felt, but your life will always be celebrated. You will forever remain a shining example to us all, Mr. Buckley. And your adoring devotees will forever remain grateful for God's having blessed us with your existence.
