About Me

Making music is beautiful because it’s free. It's my way of touching unspoken parts of life and the world--the things that words or sights alone cannot fully define. In music, i see stories, i see life's subtle shades, and look to find a way to say things that often can't be said in a conversation. It's become the side of life that completes me, and my way to plug into whatever the universe is putting out for me to receive. As i become more and more open to it, the music just gets better. But it’s been a long road getting here…After moving to the U.S. when I was 3, i grew up in the suburbs around NY and tried my best to be a good sport about it...until one night, at the ripely corruptible age of 16, i stumbled upon an underground radio station and an unbelievable energy burst from the speakers that my little radio just couldn't contain. Thus came my baptism into the world of punk rock--and i was hooked. I said "fuck it" to the sterile suburban world around me and started hanging out in NYC whenever i could sneak in. The stuff i loved: the pistols, the cramps, generation x, the stooges, u2...I became a devotee…A year or so later, i started learning to play guitar and began singing. Took lessons for a few months and taught myself the rest—in true punk spirit--and went off to Europe to reinvent myself. It didn’t take long for everything to click into gear--i assembled a great group of musicians that ended up becoming an underground sensation. Still, the continental European postpunk scene wasn't piercing the mainstream, and although i had experienced a quick rise and a lot of underground success, I felt that my future was back in the States...so i returned here. But i came back with two things: First, I knew that I could play with the best. Secondly, I came back as A.L.X.A handful of EP’s and a full length album followed, but life took some unexpected twists and turns that led me to put music aside. After the death of my father several years ago, i realized how short life was, and how important it is not to let go of your passions—so i began songwriting again…and his passing was my inspiration for the song “Firefly”. Shortly thereafter, i hooked up with producer/drummer Sammy Merendino, and we turned the new material into a full-length album. The result was "No Eyes for the Future"—a record about finding clarity through turmoil, and a reminder to not forget the importance of living in the moment. You cannot predict where tomorrow will take you (“I’ve got no eyes to see the future”—from “Landslide”), but you can be sure that today will be gone before you have time to savor it.While I’ve been lucky to have worked with some great talents over the years--Bon Jovi producer Luke Ebbin, Cameron Greider (Chris Cornell), Jeff Allen (Duncan Sheik), Roger Greenawalt (Ben Kweller, Nils Lofgren, Ric Ocasek) and electonica stars Peter Kruder (Kruder and Dorfmeister) and Rodney Hunter, just to name a few--I felt that the new songs really needed a different sound than my past work—something that combines the raw rock intensity of my early influences with the atmospheric sonic palette of my mid-90’s work. Hence, Sammy and I carefully constructed the record from the ground up and fused some of my best hooks in years into a brooding and aggressive sonic landscape that features contributions from a who’s who of the New York music scene: Guitarists Andrew Carrillo (Joan Osborne) and Jeff Golub (Billy Squier, Rod Stewart), bassists Graham Maby (Joe Jackson) and Neil Jason (Roxy Music, Cyndi Lauper) and others.New album in hand, A.L.X. was back—together with my best touring band to date. It’s a lineup that gives me a fantastic platform to develop what i believe is going to be my greatest crop of songs yet. So in the end, i really do feel that the best is still to come… The CD can be purchased at cdbaby.com/cd/alx.
