He also wears many hats as an artist, organizer, activist and aspiring Hip Hop academic. After becoming a 2005 recipient of the Posse Foundation full tuition scholarship to Trinity College, he has used his academic opportunities to carve his own space in the Hip Hop community. In only his second year of event organizing he has made remarkable strides in using Hip Hop music as an instrument to enact social change on the Trinity College Campus & in the city of Hartford.ACTIVIST
In the fall of 2006 (with the help of Minister Server) he founded the first College Chapter of KRS-ONE’s organization Temple of Hip Hop. He is the Chief Executive Organizer (CEO) of the 3rd Annual Trinity International Hip Hop Festival scheduled for April 4-6th 2008. In his first year of organizing he has helped bring artists, academics and organizers to Trinity College such as Jeff Chang (author of Can’t Stop Wont Stop), Charlie Ahern (Director of Wildstyle), Toni Blackman, Martha Diaz (H2A), Marinieves Alba (IHX), Byron Hurt (Director of Hip Hop Beyond Beats & Rhymes) and pioneers like Tony Tone of The Cold Crush Brothers, DJ Disco Wiz, and Pop Master Fable of Rock Steady Crew.
ARTIST
As a young emcee Zee presents politically conscious, street savoy, party friendly lyrics that positively represent the Y Generation in a way that transcends different cultures. Within two years of performing he has shared the stage with notable artists such as Blitz the Ambassador, Akir, Hasan Salaam, Skyzoo, La Bruja, Bocafloja, Siete Nueve, The Readnex Poetry Squad, Eternia, The Anomolies Crew, Rebel Diaz, Pack FM & Icon The Mic King, Foundation Movement, Amanda Diva, Self Suffice, Hired Gun and Sun of Nun. Zee has also been a finalist in the New York Knicks Poetry Slam 2005 and has performed at the Bowery Poetry Club and the Apollo Theater as a semi-finalist in the Urban Word Teen Slam 2005.
Organizer
Prior to college Zee was an intern and assistant to Bryan Leach (president of Polo Ground Records) where he worked with artists such as Lil Jon & The EastSide Boyz, Busta Rhymes, The Ying Yang Twins, Treach of Naughty By Nature, and Pitbull. Here is where he learned the rules of the game and found his passion for Hip Hop and the music industry.
He is now building the foundation for his own record label Fifth Element Management. A music group that aims to develop artists, promote events and celebrate the 5 elements of Hip Hop culture. In 2008 Zee will be releasing his first LP titled Hip Hop 101 produced by EQ, BDK of Ghettoblasters productions, Young Cee of Kemistree & Zaquan. There will also be a DVD released by Temple of Hip Hop titled (stay tuned for more information). The film will include live performance footage, interviews with artists, organizers and performers who have visited Trinity College, directed by Chris Woodrum and executive produced by Zee Santiago.
