My mom and dad named me Keisha J. Moore, I am the oldest of 3 and grew up right here is in Columbia SC! I am hoping to keep in touch with old friends and meet some new, genuine ones. Since I was in 6th grade I have loved writing, now just a few short years later (I'm only 16). I am living my dream, writing, teaching, performing and meeting some great people along the way! It is always challenge working a full time job part time and trying to live your dream full time!Now the official BIO:
2007 Columbia Slam, grand Slam Champion, Known on stage as Lady Laureate, Keisha J. Moore, continuously
defines and redefines herself by her words and her works; she strives to
challenge conventionalism with creativity. Keisha has been perfecting the
art of poetry for over 15 years.
Continuously growing and learning. She has graced stages from coast to coast, and performed in venues throughout the Carolinas, Georgia, St. Louis, Virginia, Sacramento, Alberquerque and Phoenix; as well as educational institutions like the Furious Flower Poetry Center at James Madison Univerisity, University of South Carolina, Newberry College, and Columbia College. Keisha is registered on the Roster of Teaching Artists with the SC Arts Commission. She devotes much of her time to leading the next generation of literary artists by facilitating poetry workshops and conducting afterschool programs at elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and community programs throughout the Columbia Metropolitan area.
Keisha has found inspiration through the works of artists such as Cree Summer, Sonia Sanchez, Jessica Care Moore, Esthero, Nikki Giovanni, Amiri Baraka, Maya Angelou, Amel Larrieux, Patricia Smith, Jaguar Wright, Suheir Hammad, Ursula Rucker, Tupac Shakur and Sarah McKinstry-Brown. Her poetry has been published in several publications including Midlands Live Magazine, Random Thoughts Magazine, Thrift Poetic Arts Journal and X Magazine; recently two of her poems were selected for inclusion in the No More Silent Cries-Anthology and the Check the Rhyme Anthology of female poets and emcees. In addition to poetry, Keisha is a thespian and community activist, not afraid to use her art to express her issues with society.
For the last 3 years Keisha had directed and acted as a part of the cast of Eve
Enslers, The Vagina Monologues, as a part of the V-Day Columbia campaign to benefit survivors of Domestic Violence and Assault.
Keisha is a 5 time member of the nationally ranked Columbia Poetry Slam team. In 2004, She wrote and recorded her work for a radio and television commercial spots for the Get Out the Vote campaign. She has self-published several chapbooks, and she is putting the finishing touches on the manuscript for her first full length collection of poetry.
