These are a few books that you can read to educate yourself on various social issues:"The Conscious Consumer" by Rose Benz Ericson, "Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger" by Ronald Sider, "Dead Man Walking" and "The Death of Innocents"by Sister Helen Prejean, "The Blindfold's Eyes" by Sister Dianna Ortiz. Read the Bible; it's full of hidden gems when it comes to wisdom on charity, philanthropy, and self-sacricificial service of one's neighbors. If your feeling ambitious, try reading three or four chapters in the Bible every night for a year( that's about how long it will take to read the whole book). Read it slowly, thoughtfully, and prayerfully. It is amazing how prominent a theme social justice is in the Good Book- especially given how quickly many Christ- followers forget the importance of serving others as we squabble over theological minutiae, worship styles, politics and everthing else under the sun.
