I remember how the darkness doubled...

About Me

Jeremiah Sammartano started playing music in the early ninties in the Orange County coffeehouses, clubs, and bars close to his Huntington Beach home. By 1998 he was settled in Hollywood where he continued to play his music influenced by the Delta blues of Charley Patton and Howlin’ Wolf, the raw, brilliant sounds of the Replacements, the lyrical, romantic and often raucous sounds of The Pogues, and the genius of Tom Waits. In 2002 Jeremiah joined with “Brother” Dale Warner on bass and David Garza on drums. The trio played showcases all around the Southern California area and continued to refine their raw, rootsy, bluesy sound. In Spring of 2004, the 9 song CD, Red Eyed and Restless, was released. Red Eyed and Restless was recorded live in the studio with Uncle Dale handling the production duties and capturing the raw, live sound of the band. In late Spring Jeremiah joined the Eddie Elliott Band for a two month national tour as guitarist and opening act.2005 - the Red Eyed and Restless CD has received widespread international acclaim and has been played on various American and European radio stations. Work on new recordings has continued and will hopefully be released in the near future (2007?).In the new year of 2006, the Jeremiah and the Red Eyes song, Just Above the Ground, was played on the the 93.9 KZLA syndicated alt-country show "Altville." Jeremiah also had the great honor to share the stage in February with Willie Nelson at the Pala Casino and add some slide guitar to his show. In October, the song Pony Blues was played on the Indie 103.1 show, Watusi Radio hosted by the great Chris Morris. Plans for a tour of the Western states is in the works.

Red Eyed & Restless

This young California man with the allure of a south-american Indian (his origins?) has been working hard since 1990, from bars to dives, from encounters to experiences, and who has all the same made 3 discs, arrives suddenly with an original album, excessively exciting and even a little disturbing. Between minimalist country ballad, alternate rock and tortured blues, with a caressing or sliding guitar, acoustic or plugged in, the songwriter Jeremiah Samartano, who goes simply by his first name, practices a music pure, whose authenticity must have it's origins in his long years of wandering. His music, punk and traditional, coming out of nowhere if not far-away lands, is a sort of cross over whose references are at the same time from some found- ing fathers of the blues (Charley Patton, Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf for example) but also from another sphere, more alternative and rock: Paul Westerberg, ex-guitarist of the disbanded Replacements, and most of all a band of musicians based in Arizona at Cave Creek. In spite of all this, the music remains rather faithful to the tradition of Delta Blues and this too-short (for me) album, recorded live in the studio with the bassist and producer (of this cd) Dale Warner, and drummer Jimmy Paxton, captures perfectly the spirit (wit/intelligence) of Jeremiah and his music. The singing is raw, mocking, the guitars rough, and the sound crude. It's magical and spellbinding, the type of thing that makes you vibrate... This artist has his sentiments "a fleur de peau" (note from fran: this means he is very sensitive, but I can't think of an idiomatic phrase in English to translate it), the talent to write, the truth at the end of his guitar and the sincerity of a real music. MAGIC!! His objective from here forward: come to do a tour in Europe.
