About Me

My name is Christian Marrone. I released my solo debut record "The Hope Hangover" in October 2007.It was produced and mixed by myself and Jon Conine. Mastered by Jeff Lipton(David Bowie, Tom Waits, Dropkick Murphy's ). I am currently booking my East Coast tour, so if you're a booking agent or promoter give me a shout. If you want a copy of my record, please send me a message. You may see me perform solo, or with a full/partial band. I try to make every show different. Different set, different guest musicians, etc. This project is just the beginning of my new musical ventures, and is an interesting change from playing in hard rock/punk bands.I've recently opened for Local H,Crescent Moon(featuring Dave Dreiwitz from WEEN), Jennifer O'Connor(Matador Records) and A.K.A.C.O.D. (Featuring Dana Colley of Morphine, Monique Ortiz of Bourbon Princess and Larry Dersch of Concussion Ensemble.) I want to perform anywhere and everywhere and connect with people who understand the value of art and music. On another note(if you want to know more about what I'm all aboutI care very much about the state of our local arts/music scene. If I'm not performing, I'm usually out there enjoying live music. If you go to enough local shows, you will see me, guaranteed. And if you do, please say hello. I always try to go out and support my favorite local bands, and I am always eager to hear what new sounds are emerging from the local underground. I have a broad musical taste and one night you may see me at a Bluegrass show, the next night, you may bump into me in a random basement in New Haven, listening to experimental noise. Lately, I've been immersing myself in music from all over the globe, such as African music(tribal drums, Ethiopian jazz, Afro-Cuban), bossa nova, avant-string ensembles, Irish music, dub reggae, Hawaiian music, middle-eastern music, mariachi, lounge, calypso etc... I absorb it all and love it and store it in the back of my brain until it's ready to come out during a spontaneous, improvisational jam session. However, it seems like most of it gets filtered through my rock n' roll roots, which keeps it fresh, expressive, and raw. My improv sessions lately have been spastic, funky, aggressive at times, but always uninhibitedly riding my stream of consciousness. Sometimes I treat my guitar like a blank canvas and just throw paint everywhere. Music is the only thing that sets me free...
