McConaughey takes on role of music manager
Mishka , right, with Matthew McConaughey Actor and Texas native Matthew McConaughey was seen in Austin last week at the UT/OSU game alongside Lance Armstrong and Jake Gyllenhaal.And this week, the Austin City Limits Music Festival is attracting its share of big-name musicians to town. But McConaughey decided to stay and town and bridge the gap between actor and musician. He’s here promoting his music protégée Mishka. Actually, the reggae singer has been on the indie circuit since 1999 with the release of his self-titled debut album.McConaughey said he heard Mishka in 1999 and spend the next four years tracking him down to be his manager. Mishka, a Canadian by birth, performed live Monday morning on KGSR 107.1 FM for the station’s ACL coverage at the Four Seasons Hotel.His ACL bio calls him “modern reggae pop’s most soulful singer-songwriter†and Mishka said he’s spent much of the past year touring for 2005’s One Tree and raising his two kids.Mishka will be performing live at the Austin City Limits Music Festival on Friday at 2 p.m. on the Washington Mutual stage.
