They are inspired by, but donâ€™t sound like (in no particular order) My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Interpol, The Cure, The Smiths, Magazine, The Chameleons, The National, TV on the Radio, Pixies, LOW, Galaxie 500, Kramer, Nirvana, Radiohead, Autechre, Anton Corbijn, The Walkmen, The Twilight Sad, Midlake, Depeche Mode, Explosions in the Sky, Spinal Tap, Chris Cunningham, Type2Error, a pretentious list of authors and classic literature, endless lists of movies, films and documentaries, especially The Warriors and the BBC series â€˜Planet Earthâ€™ (in particular the underwater episodes, there’s some strange things down there), McLusky, Public Enemy, NWA, Blur, Mudhoney, Oasisâ€™ first album, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Spacemen 3, Led Zeppelin, Eminem, Ride, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Broken Social Scene, Klaxons, Placebo, Calla, Stellastarr, Chapterhouse, Swervedriver, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Joy Division, Bloc Party, Godspeed You! If People of Santiago sounded like all of these combined, they would inevitably sound terrible.
They are not inspired by Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Joe Satriani, Guns N Roses. Anyone like that.
After listening to People of Santiago, go hunt out the bands and stuff above. Youâ€™ll have a great time. We cannot, however, be responsible for any Clapton-related mishaps or misadventures.
