Originally formed in the late 80's, they played out regularly, had a decent following, and a host of original music that was well received by all who heard it. Their music & interviews could be heard on several local 'Metal' radio shows & they could be found playing at all the popular Metal clubs from back in the day. Aside from various 'Battle of the Bands' victories, most notably, they were the winners of the 'Rock Island Competition' held by Sundance in 91' & were recorded for the ill-fated release of a live album that was to be put out by the club. (Sundance closed their doors weeks after the taping which demised the albums release) Ooohhhh, so close!!
But as with all good things, it was not to last. Besides trying to get 4-people to maintain harmony, common musical direction, & overall interest, their careers ultimately took center stage. After the departure of the original drummer & rythm guitarist, Overdrive found new life as a three-piece once again in the form of local drum God, Keith Fuelner. Keith revived the band with a new-found energy, but no matter how good the band sounded, this was also not to be, as Keith left the state in pursuit his own career goals.
Nick & Mike tried on-and-off for several years to find a suitable replacement, but Keith proved awfully difficult to replace!! Feeling discouraged, they kind of put the band idea on the back-burner for several more years as they continued their path towards mortgage payments & endless working. But this kind of lifestyle cannot persist indefinately, because deep down, each wanted to get back out & play! When it's in your blood, it's in your blood!!
So, once again they teamed up in search of a drummer, and after countless auditions, found a replacement that seemed to fit the bill. After many, many hours of song-learning & practice, the project still could not get off the ground, due almost entirely to the drummers lack of motivation & interest. Even though he wanted to play, it just didn't sound 'tight' enough to present to an audience, so he was asked to step aside.
After another three-year hiatus, they got back into the idea & found Mr. Carey Cummings, a guitar-playing drummer who truly wanted to get out & play!!! With that seemingly endless obstacle FINALLY overcome, several months of learning & practice yeilded a tight, new, well reheased band that was ready for the stage once again! But after only 4-sucessful gigs, Carey must now take a leave of absence due to personal reasons. Whether or not he returns remains to be seen, but in the meantime, Mr. Marc 'Neo' (Formerlly of Dimentianon) has agreed to step up & fill in for Carey over the next couple of months.
And last but definately not least, we would like to welcome Ms. Denise D'Avanzo (Formerly of Chaingun) to the honorable position of Lead Vocals!! Yes, that's right......Overdrive has a new lead singer, who together with Nick's vocal harmonies, are belting out all of our favorite songs like never before!!
So if you're ever in the area, or want to hear some of your favorite 80's & 90's Metal favorites, or simply have nothing else to do, come down & check out the 'new & improved' OVERDRIVE. You won't be disappointed!!!
