Born Terrace Richardson in Washington DC on a beautiful June 23rd, I’ve been a Lifelong music fan. My earliest experience with a musical instrument was as a young boy, having my grandmother pulling me into her car for my first piano lessons. Twenty years later, I’m still as much in love with those keys, as I was when I first touch a piano. Hence, my Producer Name 50KEYZ. Growing up in the roughest part of Southeast, Washington DC around the early eighties, like most kids my age, I tried to escape the violence and desolation by listening to the syncopated sounds of the local Go-Go sensation. I became infatuated with the pulsating rhythm. My love affair with music continued when I attended my first block party, and heard the local DJ make new sounds by blending & scratching old Hip-Hop records. With all that as a foundation, I made my first beat in 1995, armed with a piano, tape recorder and boom box. I did that beat layer by layer, so 6 tapes and 48hrs later I had my first certified banger.
My biggest influences are: Run DMC, Troubled Funk, Audio Two and Chuck Brown.
If I had to describe my sound I’d say it’s a melodious cross between Jam Master Jay producing and Chuck Brown. My beats have a soulful staple of organ music, piano keys and string instruments. I rarely use samples; most of my works are original productions. I like to use live instrumentation whenever I can. When I produce for someone my goal is always to make my music and their voice become kindred-spirit.I produce Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Rock, Neo-Soul, Reggae, Church music, Go-Go.
