About Me
Luminous Velocity is the Brain child of Kaya Bailey.
A renessaince man in these digital times, he prides
himself on his work.A first generation Nyabhinghi Rasta born in Brooklyn to Jamaican parents,
I was raised on a healthy musical diet of Reggae, Nyabhinghi Traditional Chants and drums, Hip Hop via being raised in Bk. Rock as I grew in to love U2, Tom Petty, the Stones, Doors, Hendrix, and the host of other talented people in the Genre past and present. In college while studying 3D design at the art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, I started to learn more about breaks, trance, Jungle - Drum n Bass, house and experimental music. On returning to New York in 1998 I was taken under the wing of Cott, the son Of Eddie jackson a guitar Player that had rocked with James Brown, and others from the 70's. He taught me recording engineering and production on Hip Hop and RnB. While my ideas at the time were just being fleshed out I met with TC Islam of Zulu Nation - Jungke Sky on a record hunting mission and learned the Bpm of Jungle. Taking the formulas I had learned and applying them to higher tempos, I grew in my understanding.
For the next few years I worked with Cott until I got a computer and started putting my own tracks together using Fruity Loops, Sound Forge, and othe now efunct toys like Rebirth (which would eventually become Reason - my main instrument of Choice). In 2002-2004 I was a Guest Instructor at the Pricton University Freshman Orientatiion Seminar Class " Sociological Dance in the 20th Century - Electronic Dance Section". Starting first as a dancer with sticks at raves I was happy to compare notes on the tradition background of using light/fire, and similarities between earlier musical movements like the 60's and 70's.In 2004 I was the Technical Director and Recording Engineer for Willpowa Records. As a part of a four person Unit I lead my team successfully as translator, tour guide, tech support, DJ and Producer along with Undakova, laila Davias, and Craig williams of Spectrum Music at Midem 2004 in Cannes France. And while we came, saw, and generated a buzz - unfortunately we didn't conquer fully. Now in 2006 I'm trying to attain world conquest with a family of prodcers that will make the world listen, and question what's on the Radio. While I consistently get questions of why I don't do Hip hop only- coming from Brooklyn - My answer is the things in my head vary in speed. I am designing the soundtracks to our interesting lives, blending movie scoring, dance floor tracks, and straight head knockers to deliver the best I can with my equipment; but especially my ideas. This year will be one of great change and growth for us all and I think you'll like what you hear.Maintaining the Speed of Thought -
