About Autonon
The man behind Autonon is Peter van Drunen (1981). Since his early youth, music has been an important part of his life. Classical piano lessons at a young age, the hours of practice he spent mastering the 6 strings of a guitar, the punk band he wrote a zillion songs for, the metal band he joined for a while, the time following in which he produced even more songs in a singer/songwriter style; all these things made him into the musician he is… though only partly. When he stumbled upon the magical world of sequencers, synthesizers and oscillators, he radically transformed into a true laptop-musician. Instead of picking strings, he’d click a mouse; instead of humming a tune, he’d turn some knobs to make a synthesizer scream. While discovering the endless possibilities of the alternative digital music, he slowly but surely started to create and evolve in his own style.
As he grew to gain complete control over his digital environment, he came to see more and more possibilities to adopt singer/songwriter-like elements into his music. The unique sound of the combinations he seeks between the alternative digital rush and the palette of colours the more traditional way of making music has to offer.
Consequently, his music doesn’t fit a particular style and is often referred to in terms of ‘somewhere inbetween indietronic, IDM, breakcore’. Oh, and don’t forget to mention the singer/songwriter elements that seep through. Or the classical melodies that seek their way into the complex melodic structures this guy builds. This is the sound of modern music through modern means. This is Autonon.
