Thank you for taking the time to visit Preston's page. As a sales and marketing professional in the music industry, he is here to network with those who share his passion for music.
While he currently serves as the Director of Urban Sales for WEA/Warner Music Group, his career in the music industry began in 1996 at Spec's Music in Coconut Grove, Florida. Following the closure of Spec's Music in 1997, he was awarded the opportunity to manage The Falls music store in S. Miami as a result of his performance in the liquidation of Spec's. In February of 1998, Preston acquired management of the popular Spec's Music store @ 163rd Street Mall. This very popular store, that once hosted the late Tupac Shakur for an in-store, featured regular visitors like DMX, Fat Joe, and other urban artists who were in South Florida. As a matter of fact, Preston's entrance to the urban world of music developed while managing this store. This is where he met the WEA representative who later offered him -- his job. .
Preston began his career with WEA in 2000 where he was the Field Marketing Rep of black music in Florida. A little over a year later, Preston moved to Atlanta in order to accept a position as the Urban Artist Development Rep for the states of Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Additionally, he worked all genres of music in the Jacksonville, Florida DMA. One year later, Preston relocated to Memphis as the Artist Development Rep for all genres of music. In this position, he was responsible for the states of Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Northern Alabama. Approximately 2 years later, Preston was promoted when he moved to Richmond to further his career as the Sales & Marketing Rep for Virginia and West Virginia. This is where he began to learn how to "sell" records under the guidance of a couple of industry greats. Two years later, Preston moved to Minneapolis due to his promotion to Midwest Regional Urban Sales Manager. In this position, he covered the entire Midwest while guiding the staff in urban sales and marketing activities. Preston was very instrumental in getting WEA/Warner Music Group it's very first (2) "Music Experiences" that included retail icon Dedry Jones in Chicago w/ Brian McKnight and Jonathan Butler. .
A recent company transition brings us to Preston in his current position as Director of Urban Sales where he works in New York City handling all aspects of urban music sales. .
Throughout this 8 year journey with WEA and more than 12 years in the music business, Preston has always remained quiet and humble by just trying his best to do things the right way. One of his most cherished and greatest compliments was from Debelah Morgan who signed a 2x2 album cover board for him in light of his work in Miami on her album. Her words, which read -- "Preston, thank you for helping me make my dreams come true", still hangs in his office today! .
Preston remains comfortably under the radar -- humbly and passionately doing what he does which is how he prefers things to be. However, he is now living his dream of "helping make our artists' dreams come true." .
In his free time, Preston likes to travel, work out, read, and, of course, listen to new music.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
