Bass Lessons/Lyricism
The odd metric groove, the odd metric flow, with modern jazz chord changes. . . Sam "The Basket Kase" Rodriguez has always had a passion for modern music. Born on Chicago's northwest side, Basket has not only been influenced by the greats, he has also studied and worked with them. His original compositions combine not only his unique lyricism over odd-metric hip-hop beats, but also integrates jazz harmony and arranging techniques, giving his music a progressive and post-modern sound.
The Basket Kase is the founder of the underground hip-hop organization The Storytellas Crew (circa 1993) who made an important impact on the Chicago hip-hop scene in the mid-90s. After high school, he became an accomplished student of jazz and the double bass and is currently leading The Storyteller's Jazz Trio, who perform each Wednesday night at Xippo Lounge.
His first self-produced studio album is scheduled to be released early in 2008. Be on the lookout for the production skills of Sam "The Basket Kase" Rodriguez. "I got whatever kind of bass line you need, in tune and in time!" -S'BK'R
