About Me

a composer living in brooklyn, new york; husband, father, poet, humorist, essayist, editor, conductor, percussionist, guitarist, pianist, bassist, singer, field sound recordist, new adult, car driver*********studied percussion and composition and played football at Oberlin College, composition but not football at the University of Michigan, and percussion and 1-time pickle (that's the flag football team) at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Grew up in North Carolina, spent some time in Vienna, worked in Kansas before moving to NYC. Loves to travel and to not travel.********Has written three operas, four concertos, some orchestral works, an oratorio, solo and chamber pieces, parodies and pocket operas, zwolfe tonen, jazzy classical and classically rock music, several improv cds, 80 rock songs in ye olden style, some electronic and concrete music, and word music.********Upcoming event is the production of third chamber opera, the conclusion to the "Defenestration Trilogy," MAN: BIOLOGY OF A FALL at Kumble Theater in Brooklyn, NY. October 4-7. aka "the last thing I'm ever going to do."*******Recent performances at: Syracuse University, New York State Museum, Miller Theater, and Saratoga Battlefield. Music recorded on DAD, MSR, Cantaloupe, Equilibrium, Cadence, and 1 in the can forever at Albany. Influences: birds, wind-up toys, machinery backing up, crowd noise on rush's "all the world's a stage", piano strings, way way off jet planes, dogbarks, genesyes, little waves at salter path, humidity, igornarnold, crack o the bat, zepsabmaidhendoz, smackarooni, and the early early early stuff
Sounds Like: everything i do is an homage in some form or another to the drumming of Bill Ward (that's for you J.M. & P.M.)
