...My God, do i really have to go on, this is so dull,
Here r my favorite genres:
Shred - The emphasis of honed technical skill, popularised during the 80's, in the wake of such guitarists as Eddie Van Halen and Ritchie Blackmore. However shred is not limited to just guitar playing, keyboard players and certain bassists have taken a liking to having awesome chops too...
Metal - An evolution of the hard rock sound that started to appear in the 1960's in the music of bands such as Led Zepplin Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix. The first metal band (only in my opinion as it is fiercly debated) is Black Sabbath. Metal has since taken many forms and sub genres until now it as an umbrella for anything from bands such as Poison and Cinderella (Hair Metal) to Cannibal Corpse and Necrophagist (Death and Tech metal respectivly)
Punk - Punk started out more as an ethic towards life and society rather than a music style, emphasising aggression and attitude over musical skill. After the initial explosion around 1978, there have been three major "waves" or revivals of punk, firstly the ramones from USA and The Clash, Sex Pistols and Undertones from the UK, secondly the american punk of the 80's in the form of Black Flag, Agent Orange and Dead Kennedys, and thirdly in the 90's bands such as Bad Religion, The Offspring and Bouncing Souls are playing a poppier more refined take on the previous bands sound.
Rock - Plain and simply rocking, anything from Led Zepplin, to Foo Fighters, with a beer in hand its the music thats lost in every blokes glove compartment.
Nu-metal - Can be described as Hip Hop + Metal, rap metal. Some people have since described it as crap. Although the number of bands that were being put out towards the end of the 90's was almost laughable, it is beyond debate the innovation and power that was contained on the early KoRn records.
Progressive Rock/Metal - A subgenre of rock and, more recently, heavy metal, which has become a genre in itself. Trademark features include, complex song structures, use of odd time signatures, technical virtuosity, concept songs/albums and epic lyrics and imagery. Standout bands from the first wave in the 1970 include Yes, Rush, Genesis and King Crimson, with more modern acts such as Dream Theater and Symphony X taking prog to new areas.
Reggae/Dub - One of the many predominantly black music styles that can be traced back to the slave trade and the negro spirituals (hymes sung by slaves while working in the fields of southern America) It has since been taken and imitated by western artists such as the Specials to form Ska Punk. The face of reggae music will always be Bob Marley for his guitar playing and song writing abilities.
Classical - The virosity and theorical genius of the Baroque composers and their predecesors has shapes all of western music since, even the music your listening to now.
if you've bothered to read this far you'll hav probably figured we'd get along if music meant everything.....
