About Me

I was born in Madagascar on 28th of June in the city of Tamatave into a family from the Reunion Island. I stayed there until I was 10 when my father decided to move to France and we arrived in Aix en Provence. For as long as I can remember, I have always sung; first of all with my father a guitarist playing ‘séga’ and ‘maloya’ (traditional music from the Reunion Island) and then with my older brothers also guitarists and singers. The weekends were always the best time to pick up the guitars and harmonica, and play and sing traditional music. We listened to modern music on the radio and from time to time managed to get a hold of some old classical and jazz records. My childhood was lulled by the rhythm of ‘séga’, ‘maloya’, Strauss waltzes, Chopin and Lizst, French songs and Django Reinhart . Throughout my adolescence, I listened to Blues and started singing with friends; one of my brothers’ friends got me into Earl Hines , Memphis Slim , Willie Dixon and Johnny Griffin. Finally I would listen in total rapture to “Summertime” from “Porgy and Bess” by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong! This was also a period for savouring Claude Nougaro’s poetry with Eddy Louiss and singing Bossa-nova with my brothers on the guitars ...Throughout the years, I have been lucky to meet many fantastic musicians and beautiful people i played and learned ( and continue to play and learn ) a lot with!
