wohnton : Music Marketing- & Consulting / Music Publishing / Label / Music Distribution / Event-DJ'ing-, Design- & Consulting ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------- 2008: 10 years of wohnton ----- Originally founded in 1998 in Rüsselsheim (near Frankfurt/Germany) by Stefan Roos as a mixedtape-project in releasing Chillout- & Ambient-Mixedtapes in small editions, "Wohnton Musik" as an official label started releasing his own definition of relaxciting german electronic pop music in 1999 with the "Selection of underground trip-pop"-12"vinyl (released in cooperation with Hanover Theatre and re-released in 2005). ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------- Releasing "user's atmosphere's" ambient-downbeats-hymn-single "Watership Song" in early 2000, "Wohnton Musik" surprisingly was confronted with a massive receipt of worldwide interest and respect from all types of customers, media, clubs & dj's. Which needed to (and could) be manifested in the following years in releasing albums/ep's/tracks from talented and extrordinary artists like "Red Sparrow", "Spherical", "Flashbaxx", "Alpaca Heads", "Boot Cut Rockers", "Shambelle" or "Nude" (german band) and some volumes of the succesful lounge-, downbeat- and relaxciting-pop-compilationseries "Flooristik". Till yet, tracks from "Wohnton Musik"-artists can be found on more than 100 compilations worldwide with a total edition of more than 1.000.000 cd's & vinyl's. ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------- Very early (in the late 90ies), the "Wohnton Musik"-label started to set focus on releasing tracks as a digital donwload - and was one of the first german independent-labels in having some of its releases in the US-iTunes store. "Wohnton Musik" as a label never stopped in being engaged and in trying to find an ideal and fair-to-the-artist way to bring young, new & creative german underground (relaxed but exciting) electronic-pop-artists to a bigger worldwide audience. ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------- So, due to the uprising number of interesting tracks in the labelcatalogue and the growing network with other people in the music biz over the years, the way in expanding to a bigger company with more departments like music publishing-, marketing-, consulting- and distribution was a more than necessary step. With the famous Hamburg based music publishing company "Freibank" (founded in the mid-80ies by Klaus Maeck and "Einstürzende Neubauten"'s Mark Chung), wohnton (as a music publishing edition "Edition Wohntöne") found the ideal music publishing partner & mothercompany. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------- Nowadays, wohnton works (having its homebase in Mainz/Germany near river Rhein) as a worldwide acting allround-servicepertaner in the music biz, being engaged in diffferent styles of "relaxciting" popmusic. The still existing "Wohnton Musik"-label is right now, sorry, not one of these german labels with the biggest output in releasenumbers, but is sure happily and creatively integrated into the expanding popmusic network of the "mother company" wohnton.
