Mostly figuring out how to make perfectly good analog sounds sound as good when I sample them into a digital medium. Aikido and MMA, Ancient history (especially the military kind, ya gotta love that Battle of Cannae) Video Gaming (mostly PC RTS these days) seeing a good movie, checking out a good band and a whole bunch of other stuff that would make me sound like a lunatic.Oh yeah, over the years, I have tried literally hundreds of different kinds of Single Malt Scotch, both here and in Scotland. I consider myself an expert in this field.
Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Maritn Birch, Tom Dowd, Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus Major but, he's dead & I don't speak Latin so, short conversation there. The person or persons who run the power grid in my neighborhood. I'll post more as I think of it.
Doing what I do for a living, one must be open to just about all types of music. I will say one or two things however...there are some types music that you'll never find me seeking out , polka, certain German operas and most forms of Latin music come to mind. On the more positive side of things I am A HUGE RUSH FANATIC, I've seen them about 40+ times since my first time at Radio City Music Hall in 9/83. I even got to work with Neil Peart and the outstanding Engineer/Producer Paul Northfield for 2 days on a Buddy Rich Tribute album (more on this in my "brief history" blog section). I also think Trent Reznor is a musical genius, as was Frank Zappa before him. But, for the most part I'm pretty much a Rock dinosaur.
Oh, just about everything Stanley Kubrick ever did (yes, even Eyes Wide...) Also Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Quentin Tarrentino, Ridley Scott and Kevin Smith are guys who make good liitle films. But also The Star Wars series, The Godfather series, The Alien Series, The Predator series, The Matrix series, the first 3 Hellraiser movies, I Claudius (Skyye doesn't consider this a movie but I disagree, sorry Babe) Fight Club, The Usual Suspects,The X-Men series, American Beauty, Audition, John Carpenters' "The Thing", Christopher Guest's films (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration) Spinal Tap (I have lived this movie), The first 4 Cheech & Chong movies. the Monty Python movies. Also a big fan of Marilyn Chambers, Vanessa del Rio & Seka. Once again I'll post more when they come to mind
Not much time for the ol' tube. Some of the HBO stuff is good. Rome (Season 2 kicking ass WHOOO HOOO!!!) The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Carnivale. I try to catch "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" when I can. I am totally down with the UFC and MMA in general. But between Skyye & Myself we have a quite impressive library of all sorts of stuff on DVD & Video so we tend to make our own.
My favorite writer of fiction is a fellow by the name of Shane Stevens. I also like Stephen King, Clive Barker, Charles Bukowski and some others. Besides fiction, you would find in my Library books on such subjects as Political Science. Abnormal Psychology, The Surrealist movement and that old stand by...Ancient history.
