When Demi express herself she puts all of her energy into her music to serve her repetoire which is written with four hands: herself and her accomplice and mentor Fred Morisset . Demi envoke time after time the innocence of childhood, separation, death, and the roll of a woman in our society with a cofirmed touch of poetry. She will shake your emotions with an undeniable accent of truth . An unconditional fan of Nina Simone, she revendicate the militant and humanistic heritage. Demi propose an unclassable style of music that`s transparent and direct, with a surprising mix of southern soul and commited folk pop. She never forget the gospel and blues which were the props of her childhood in Texas. If this child of the black america sound like a person outside of the musical scene which is often formated and reduced, it`s because of her uncut personality and eclectism, the heritage of her unusual path. As she grew up in the heart of North Dallas in the 60`s, Demetrious Evans was exposed really early to the popular musics building the diary of the afro american community. The gospel gave her the possibility to try her first hand at music as a singer in the choir of her neighborhood baptist church. The soul music was boiling on the air at this time when the first minority of America was fighting by the side of Martin Luther King. At least, the blues she curtseyed through the mysterious icon, her farther, often gone, the piano player in the orchestra of Bobby Blue Bland. Not living with her parents, Demi was raised by her grandmother which was for a time a dancer in a chorus line before getting caught by the family life. Saturday nights grandma plundered the black nightclubs of Dallas, and by this way Demetrious crossed the paths of many stars of the chitlin circuit, starting with Johnny Taylor. But it`s because she heard the very young Michael Jackson on the radio that she desired to sing. " I wanted to make something different than the other kids on my block since most of them were exstremely poor, I wanted to be the one to help them to better their lives, and for me the stage was the best place to communicate, to show the way". Waiting to give inspiration to her people, Demi helped her grandma by working after school every night at the Dallas Morning News, until the day grandma decided to follow the immagration wave and move like most of the afro american of the southern states to California. In L.A. it`s not by the musical way but on the fashion business that Demi built her name. Recruited by a modeling agency, she financed her studies of acting by lending her silhouette to some of the most famous designers of america. This career brought her the chance to move to New York in the mid 80`s, and by hazard she crossed the path of a show promotor who brought her to the circuit of the gay cabaret where her imitational comics of Grace Jones gave her a reputation. Her double hat of model and singer drove her to europe where she shared her time between clubs and runways. She wore the colors of Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Lacroix from Paris to Milano and Wien. After Austria ,Germany became her new harbor, where Sven Vath, one of the most famous DJ`s over Rhin produced the music for her first single. The local success of her music with a strong color of techno house pushed Demi to return to America where she found quickly her place in the surroundings of Stevie Wonder, who in turn gave her counsel to find her voice by writing her own lyrics, An enlightening advice which changed definitely the way of her life. Forgetting the fashion shows, Demi returned to Europe to embrace a career of music as a singer. But in the early summer of 95` a big car accident reduced to nothingness all these years of effort : " After I finished singing one night in Monaco, an english man proposed kindly to drive me back to my home, but the fact that he was driving a red Ferrari Testarossa did not really console me while I was in intensive care at the hospital with multiple fractures ", she remembers with this touch of humor when housing her lyrics. At the term of a long convalescence Demi decided to stop in Paris on her way back to the United States. Following a friend of her, a member of the late Luther Allison blues band, she made a detour arriving at the Duc des Lombards and embarking on a fruitful collaboration with the amazing drummer Paco Sery. For Demi this was the beginning of a french adventure that continues today from 2000 by meeting Fred Morisset. Sound engineer and guitar player, this collaborator of Raymond Devos is quick to take the measurements of the talent of Demi and push her to yield the profits of a writer. Writing and composing as a couple, the repetoire of Demi manifested until the day Morisset introduced her to the famous harmonica player 'Jean- Jacques Milteau who put her immediately into his band. " Before working with Jean-Jacques I was working as a singer for an american bassplayer living in France, but it was JJ teaching me the tricks of show business, I owe him enormously ". The brightest harmonica player of the blues planet did not only give Demi a place in his band, on the biggest stages, from Vienne to Antibes going by Theatre des Champs Elys..e: after to ask for her participation in the adventure of his last CD to date, " Fragile ", that`s him to encourage her to start her own career, he introduced her also to his producer Sebastian Dauchin. The coming out of her CD " Why Do You Run " on the Harmonia Mundi label Iris music at the spring of 2006 gave her the opportunity to show her real face: the one of sincible interpreter, generous, open to all the problems of the world which she talk about with extreme frankness and a poetry with no make-up. " Like most of us I care about the direction the planet is going in and I`m persuaded it`s by talking about this fear that we will progress in the world situations". This declaration could sound a little bit idealistic if the reaction from the public confirm the ambition of this artist perfectly unclassable. On stage as on record her lyrics hit the bullseye, wonderfully served by a wonderful voice and an insatiable determination. The fleeting impressions, the words chiseled and subtle, a look tender and lucid in our everyday life...the talented writing of Demi beautifully underlined by the melodies of Fred Morisset, leave no one indifferent, and there`s no doubt that the name of Demi Evans will not be late to become a synonym of big success. After many episodes, Demi comes to the point to reach her objective of her childhood in the ghetto of Dallas: to serve the others by touching them with the grace of her talent.
