Solaris - DJ /Producer

About Me

Tim Yoder entered the electronic music scene in the winter of 1996. His love of underground music, both electronic and industrial, drew him to music events throughout the Midwest. It would be at a party in St. Louis that he found his calling, a love for techno, inspired by a phenomenal set by DRC on New Years Eve. Shortly thereafter, he purchased his first set of 1200s and began a modest collection of records during his travels abroad. It would be when he returned, at the late night events at Infinite Sun, where he aquired his DJ moniker Solaris.
Solaris has been part of the electronic music community in the Midwest, both as a promoter and DJ. As co-founder of SyQuil, one of the most popular websites for the electronic music scene at its time, he has been a part of the growth of the community since its early conception. Solaris and other local techno DJs such as Offtrack and Andrew Boie formed a coalition called the Techno Justice League (TJL). The TJL is comprised of DJs, electronic music artists and producers as a means to help expose the Midwest to the driving force behind the rise of techno in the electronic music community. In the past, he has performed with world-renowned DJs and artists, including Chris Liberator, DRC, D.A.V.E. the Drummer, Marco Carolla, Rowland the Bastard, Mark EG, and Monk from Rabbit in the Moon. He has also recently joined the Phocas crew, as a writing contributor and event manager in coordination with Todd Comer.
He has always found his passion in the hard-pounding rhythm of techno. With the burgeoning of many subgenres in techno, his ear turned towards the hard and more minimal sound. Some of his personal influences include Recycled Plastik by Plastikman, Spicelabs Spy versus Spice and Deeper Throats Electrolux. Acid techno has always been a favorite of Solaris as well, including the harder lines of the Stay Up Forever label and CLR to name a few. More recently, Solaris has expanded his love of hard, driving techno into the studio, producing some of the edgiest techno heard in the Midwest. Many rave wildly about his production skill and how it emulates the driving force and ferocity behind his choice picks in his mix sets.
Unrelenting is the best way to describe Solaris sets. In a blazing fury of vinyl and chaos, he assaults party goers and sound systems alike. Many have fell before his barrage of gritty acid techno at The Womb in Miami, at Even Further in Wisconsin and in cities across the US. Few have the stamina and heart that this man puts into every set he plays, giving this self-styled tyrant of techno a formidable presence in the electronic music scene. Considered one of the most influential techno DJs in Kansas City, Solaris puts the Kansas City electronic music scene on the map. Keep your ears attentive for future encounters with this rising star.
