About Me

Walkyri was born in the Netherlands in 1973. From an early age she showed musical talent and especially an interest in singing. Noticing this her parents put her on piano lessons. When she was 15 she tried out her brother’s guitar and fell in love with the instrument immediately. This was much more fun, since you could sing and play at the same time! From that moment on she practiced and practiced, as she just loved to play the guitar and sing.
For a long time it was just a hobby and she would only sing in her room and of course in the bathroom! But in 1991 she tried her luck at an audition for Jesus Christ Superstar. She got a small part and met an important person for her further musical development; a talented pianist recognized her singing talent and encouraged her to audition for the conservatory. During this education for becoming a professional singer and singing teacher, she started writing music. Her heroines were Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell.
After her studies, Walkyri felt the desire to travel. A love for Irish music and folk music led her to go to Ireland. She played there in bars and as a street artist. As Irish people are very enthusiastic about music, it was a lot of fun to play there.
But she missed her family and friends and after two years she moved back to the Netherlands. Back in The Netherlands she started teaching singing and sang in various bands, doing pop, jazz, disco and of course Irish music. She started being more serious about writing songs and also did some co-writing: since 2005 she has worked with the synthesizer duo ‘Innervoice’ which resulted in the beautiful song ‘Different’. Innervoice and Walkyri are still working on a complete album. Check out their myspace site on www.myspace.com/innervoice!
In September 2005 she also met K.C. Bridge, with whom she started recording and writing songs. They decided to get serious and make a complete CD. Walkyri and Kees asked different musicians to contribute their musical skills and ideas and together they made 'Soul Searching' Due to Kees’s and Walkyri’s broad musical taste and experience in many styles of music, the CD is very versatile, containing piano ballads, pop, folk, rock, R&B and reggae songs.
After seeing An inconvenient truth last december Walkyri got very concerned about global warming. It inspired her write the song 'Five to twelve' and do an E-mail action to make people more aware of the seriousness of this problem. Read more about it on her website www.walkyri.com!
