About Me

Just another lesbian rock star living in Brooklyn. I'm a painter and a poet, a bird-watcher, a nightlife lover, and a cat-loving Obamamaniac. Trying to place me? You might know me from New Orleans or NYC or Wisconsin or Chicago or Ithaca, from Interlochen or West Jeff, Pieces or Nanny's or Meow Mix or Cattyshack or Julie's or Coney Island or Cherry Grove or Park Slope or Sunset Park or the Center or the Lower East Side or the D train or the F train or MoTHeR or Kate's or Bergdorf's or Allan and Suzi's. If you don't know me, come to one of my gigs and get on board with my thang!
Presently I sing lead for NYC rock band Changing Modes . We released a CD in spring 2008 called "Down and Out in Shangri-La." Check out the great reviews:
New York band Changing Modes delivers their third album with a bang. Volcanic, energetic, and sometimes full throttle... This is one band that can thrash a stadium crowd or seduce a small club. One thing remains clear though; they have brought New York edginess back to rock music.
--Feminist Review, May 2008
Something different and unique, something theatrical, something serious...
--Local Vertical, May 2008
They built a sound that is rather organic, it's funky, it's laden with keyboards and also lots of intricate poly-rhythmic changes, and that's their hallmark. Nobody does sounds quite like they do.
--Dan Herman, Radio Crystal Blue, January 2008
Changing Modes are clearly an ambitious band, they're from New York, they have some delightful slices of genuinely chewy progressive awkwardness in there with their very listenable blend of constantly shifting sometimes demanding earfood.
--Organ Magazine, March 2008
The band's third album, it incorporates the velvety vocals of pop favorites like Blondie and the intricate technique of musical alchemists like Frank Zappa... Lead vocalist Camille Atkinson's clear, quirky voice (she's got a noticeable past in acting and cabaret) fits in to each decade and type of rock Changing Modes embodies... If this is what it's like to be down and out in Shangri-la, I can't imagine how pleasant it must be to live well-off.
--Amie Street, July 2008
I don’t think you will hear another group like Changing Modes in this Century.
--Cashbox Magazine, May 2008

My Interests

I'm one of those people who really enjoys most of the things life has to offer, and frequently I enjoy the usual home entertainment system offerings, hanging out with my Significant Other and our Cats. I also enjoy what life has to offer that takes place outside my Brooklyn digs, and try to get to as many different kinds of shows that I can, plus of course I just love bar-hopping and dancing...

I'd like to meet:

Cool, unpretentious people who like to have a good time! And I'd love to have a drink with Michelle Obama...

Check me out on Facebook at the link below:

Music:

Led Zeppelin... Jimi Hendrix... Mozart... Sibelius... Janis Joplin, the Doors, Tori Amos, The Star Formerly Known As "Madonna", Ella, the Stones, John and Yoko...

Movies:

Strictly Ballroom, Lagaan, John Waters pre-Hairspray (sigh, oh Hairspray how thou art missed), and generally speaking anything 90 minutes or longer with Jodie Foster, Jane Fonda, or Raquel Welch.

Television:

Nothing I enjoy like a documentary. Except maybe the fabulous stuff they cook up for Adult Swim.

Books:

Read the Tao. It changes you. I can't even begin to tell you what I've read or what I'm reading. Let's just say I really like to read.

Heroes:

Martin Luther King Jr, Barack Obama, Al Gore, The Jooge, Wendy Griffiths, that tramp from Michigan who thinks she became the lady of the manor, Dolly Parton, Krishna, John Lennon, Lakshmi, Yoko Ono, Buddha, Ms. Page (Bettie), Artoo, Ms and Mr Ragan, Peggy Noonan, and of course The Children.
