The Convclave :
Seanron
(Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Programming) Soviet's leader and dark overlord. Ol' Seany here can play lots of instruments AND knows his way around album production and mastering, which makes him quite useful really. Soviet is Sean's vision, its that simple.
D'Thun
(Guitars, Backing Vocals) Sean's nefarious comrade, Darren is Soviets rhythm guitarist and co-vocalist, aiding Sean in his quest to bring Commumetal to the world
Wildcondrius
(Vocals, Spoken Word, Keyboards) Fenwick is the latest addition to the Soviet collective, and in all honesty has been an integral part since the beginning. Finally accepting his fate and joining the ranks, Wildcondrius outlines Soviet's apocalyptic visions in full
Discography :
"The Day That Russia Burned" 1998-1999
Where the whole story began. Self-recorded & Self-produced by Sean back in 1999, it's a grainy, noisy bitch of a demo. Not looked on to fondly by Sean anymore, who admits "Its very fucking amatuer, its a bit of a mess. Some of the songs are pretty good, but it's definetly not what I wanna be remembered for (laughs)" Features incredibly early versions of 'The Day That Russia Burned" & "Technophobe" from the forthcoming "When The Dawn Brings The Thaw"
1: Technophobe
2: Humanity Encompassed
3: Soldier
4: A Search For The Perfect Understanding
5: Comrade
6: As Dead As Irony In America
7: The Day That Russia Burned
"5000 Decibels Above Everyone Else" 2001
After some severe line-up chnages in the live band, and some less than pleasant shit personally, Sean returned to record more songs unnder the Soviet banner. "I was still using a crappy Keyboard based drum-machine at that point, so it still sounds crappy without a live drummer" says Sean, "But the songs are much better than TDTRB." It was more focused and had more flow, and you can actually hear whats going on as opposed to the garbled mess of the first demo. Also was the first apperance of many of Soviet's best songs: 'American Imperia', 'Alistaan' & 'Stephen'. It is also around this period that both Sephi & Darren joined the band, and the true line-up got going.
1: Moscow
2: God Is A Lie
3: Spoon
4: Amerikan Imperia
5: Cancer Ward
6: Silent Hill
7: Al'Istaan
8: Stephen
9: A Love Song
10: I Am Prototype
"Live From The Front" 2002 - 2003
The first disc to be made by the whole band as opposed to "a wanky, NIN-style ego trip" (Sean's words), this 2-disc was recorded at 2 dates in Fury Murry's, Glasgow. Features ex-soviet bassist Alan Staresy, and also the expected line up of soviet songs. Also featured the early versions of both 'Chronicle' & 'March of the Helghast', and also features a gay joke or two at the expense of Darren. "I love how the songs sound live, cause their a bit rawer and more chaotic live, and also the gallop bit at the end of 'Chronicle is always fun" Sean comments, "and if you listen real hard during the last song, i head-butt the mic really, REALLY hard (laughs)"
1: Humanity Encompassed
2: Amerikan Imperia
3: Al'istaan
4: Chronicle
5: March of The Helghast
6: The Silent Hill
7: Soldier
8: The Day That Russia Burned
"Chronicle: Human's are built to die" 2005
"This is the shit, our definitive moment to date" says Darren on the first album to feature the writing skills of all of Soviet's members. Recorded in Inverness, it is the first proper disc to have Sephi on drums & Darren on guitar (Sean recoded all the bass parts as Staresy had recently left to join Glasgow Thrash Titans, Syth). "We'r all really proud of this album" says Sean "and it features the definite favourites" The shiny disc contains Soviet's favourite songs thus far from the Punky 'Amerikan Imperia', the monolithic 'March of the Helghast' & 'Alistaan', the tender 'Silent Hil' and the freak-out that is 'Day That Russia Burned'
1: Amerikan Imperia
2: Al'Istaan
3: Chronicle
4: March Of The Helghast
5: The Silent Hill
6: Soldier
7: Stephen
8: The Day That Russia Burned
"When The Dawn Brings The Thaw" 2006 - 2007
Soviet's forthcoming album, and the one that Sean believes "will wipe the board and be a new future for us, hopefully a better one (smiles)" A Pink Floyd-esque Concept album, 'Dawn...' tells the story of mankind's destruction at the hands of an ancient malice that eventually consumes the world, and how we have always been the makers of our own doom. Sean states that "Theres alot of story on this record, and i'll probably put the whole thing up on our site so people can read it and find out their opinions on it. I'v never been very good at writing songs about me or kinda personal things, but songs about robots and huge fucking space cruisers are easy (laughs). Its just a way of getting my viewpoint on the world across in a way that appeals to me" Featuring a better flow than the last few CD's (which were simply collections of songs, rather than one musical piece), this album see's Soviet deconstruct down to a new core line-up.The track listing is as follows:
1: Welcome To The Machine
2: Technophobe
3: Human
4: Reclamation
5: Endless Oceans of Winters Night
6: Moscow
7: Aeon In Thaw
8: Mesa
9: Fly To The Heart Of The Sun
Hoping to get the comleted article done by the end of the year, Soviet's future can only get brighter.
Influences:
These bands are greater than we, and should be listened to forthwith.
Devin Townsend, Meads Of Asphodel, Emperor, Sigh, Muse, Enslaved, Rammstein, Sunn 0))) & MastodonPlease note that to be influenced by someone means to take inspiration from them, not to blatantly copy a sound that they are far superior at playing. You may not instantly hear the influence that this music has had on us, but believe me when i say its there.
Sounds Like: A Warning to The impending Machine Invasion
