Illustrative is the leading European forum for contemporary illustration and graphic arts. Every year at two different creative hot spots in Europe, the exhibition displays an inspiring collection of current graphical art with over 400 works from more than 60 artists.
Over the course of two weeks, the festival will celebrate the illustrative arts, discover new talents, exchange ideas, marvel at progressive technologies, and rediscover forgotten styles. Illustrative will feature an exclusive exhibition and show of works from 25 internationally recognized illustrators as well as conferences, a film program, and parties; it will display not only the quality and fantasy of the latest graphic arts but also show how the visual effects of graphic design, illustration, book art, comics, concept art, and animation spill into and influence the field of art. The exhibition will be accompanied by the Young Talents Contest “Young Illustrators Awardâ€. The exhibit of the contest winners will display the most intuitive tendencies of the genre and is an exciting measure for new trends.
Established in Berlin in 2006, Illustrative has been held twice in Berlin (2006/2007) and once in Paris (2007). Pascal Johanssen is the exhibition's curator. The young talents are selected by an international artistic curatorship.

Die Illustrative ist das führende europäische Forum für zeitgenössische Illustration und Grafik. Mit über 400 Werken von mehr als 60 Künstlern zeigt die Ausstellung, jedes Jahr an zwei anderen kreativen Hot Spots in Europa, eine inspirierende Dichte an aktueller grafischer Kunst.
Zwei Wochen lang werden die Illustration gefeiert, neue Talente entdeckt, Meinungen ausgetauscht, progressive Technologien bestaunt und vergessene Stile wiederentdeckt. Im Zentrum der Illustrative steht, neben Konferenzen, einem Filmprogramm und Partys, eine exklusive Ausstellung und Werkschau von 25 international bekannten Illustratoren; sie zeigt nicht nur die Qualität und Phantasie der neueren Grafik, sondern auch, wie die visuellen Einflüsse aus Grafikdesign, Illustration, Buchkunst, Comic, Concept Art oder Animation in das Feld der Kunst einbrechen und es beeinflussen. Ergänzt wird die Ausstellung durch einen Nachwuchswettbewerb. Die Sektionsausstellung der Preisträger des Wettbewerbes zeigt die unmittelbarsten Tendenzen des Genres und ist ein spannender Seismograph für neue Strömungen.
Die Illustrative, die im Jahr 2006 in Berlin gegründet wurde, fand bislang zweimal in Berlin (2006/ 2007) und einmal in Paris (2007) statt. Die Ausstellung wird kuratiert von Pascal Johanssen. Die Auswahl der Nachwuchstalente erfolgt durch ein künstlerisches Kuratorium.
