Fimbulvetr are a North American Viking Metal band. We are located in Jersey City, New Jersey. The band’s original name was Tyranny, and was started by Lucas Scalcione-Hahn and Oscar Bueno in the summer of 2006. With the breakup of another local band, guitarist Marcus Acosta and bassist Gideon McAdams were added to the line-up.
When the band realized that they wanted to set their sights on Viking metal, they shed the name Tyranny and settled on the name Fimbulvetr. Fimbulvetr literally translates to "Great Winter" (fimbul = great; vetr = winter) from Old Norse. Fimbulvetr, commonly referred to the "Winter of Winters" in English, marks the beginning of Ragnarök where the gods have a final battle which ends life on Earth. It will be a time of innumerable wars where "brothers will kill brothers."
Fimbulvetr recorded their demo the weekend of December 29th with Joan, who has also worked with local band Skies Devoured, at Black Stone Studio(his recording studio). The mixing took place during the month of January and February. Two songs are now out, and two more will be done by late May. Look for several more by the end of summer!
